Caltex Pakistan Open Tennis Championship 2010 is expected to commence on 25 December at the Pakistan Tennis Federation Complex at Garden Avenue, according to a recent announcement made by PTF President Syed Kaleem Imam.
Syed Kaleem Imam, who was recently awarded the post of president, told a news conference, “The Championship will be played in five categories, men’s singles, men’s doubles, ladies singles, junior under-18 singles and boys under-14.”
The president also announced that the Pakistan Open Tennis Championship will be sponsored by
Caltex, and that the PTF would like to thank the organisation for enabling PTF to hold the event. He also added that it would help PTF to discover and enable younger tennis players in the country to fully explore and expand their potential.
According to Imam, a four-year plan will soon be put in action for the promotion of tennis in the country. The same plan will review the performance of the federation and consequently take action for a more positive change. The federation also plans to find
and culture talent at the grassroots level to hone it to international standards.
Imam also added that he had requested the office-bearers of the Pakistan Tennis Federation to make sure they played an active role in the development of tennis in the country. He says, “Our aim is to hunt the hidden talent to make tennis a popular game of
our country. And under our four-year plan we hope to get sponsorship from multi-national organisations, banking sector and mobile companies.”
He also stated that the PTF intended to hire qualified coaches in order to polish the talent of budding players who were interested in honing their tennis skills, in addition to which well-known tennis players would also be consulted for suggestions and
guidance.
The PTF also plans to launch a tennis website in the near future to update players and fans with the latest information about tennis. The president also informed the media that four young tennis players would be participating in the under-14 tennis championships
in Myanmar in January. These players are Iman Qureshi, Muhammad Mudassar, Zaid Mujahid and Husnain Manzoor.
