Question:

First Slr? Any suggestions?

I'm getting a job and I've always wanted to buy a Digital SLR. I'm planning to get more into photography after practically mastering video-editing after 2 years.

I've been doing some research and I'm thinking of buying a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTI and maybe an additional lens for better zooming. It has a lot of good ratings and I trust Canon. And it's roughly around $700

But if anybody has any other suggestions, that'd be great.

Please bear in mind that I'm a teenager on a budget. I'm not planning on spending $3000.

  1. Canon EOS Rebel XTI  good for new user   can use auto or manual mode more function for best picture   you can buy Rebel  XTI only  $579   from amazon

  2. try to look for CANON XSI/450D

    it has

    12.2 megapixel

    Live view function

    anti-dust cleaning system

  3. If you don't feel like reading anything else, just get a Nikon D40. It's a fantastic camera. It's fast, cheap, and opens up the entire range of Nikon lenses to you.

Canon's are also great cameras, but I have personally always preferred Nikons.

You can't go wrong with either. In my opinion, I would just buy the D40 and spend the extra money on a very nice lens, because in a few years, any camera body you buy now will be obsolete, but that lens will last decades.

  4. I'd go with the XTi. Just don't forget the CF card, as it does not come with one. If you are just starting out, the 18-55mm kit lens is not that bad, although you'll soon find yourself wanting more "reach". The XTi and kit lens and CF card is about $600 on Amazon at the moment. Ultimately, you'll end up spending much more on a selection of quality lenses down the road.

  5. I think you would be most happy with the Rebel XTI.  I currently have one and find that it is very user friendly.   It is a 10 megapixel camera which allows for great enlargements.  Also, the batteries are good for several hundred pictures with one charge.  I really like that.   My one bit of advice though is to get the XTI that comes in a kit having two lenses.   One is the 18-55mm and the other is the 70-210mm.  Those ranges take care of all of your photo needs.
