First Test match – New Zealand versus Pakistan (Part 1)
After losing the Twenty20 International series by 2-1, Pakistan thrashed New Zealand in the opening Test match at Hamilton. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wasim-Akram-c96292 and Waqar Younis who wrecked
New Zealand in the second innings and this year it was Umar Gul, Abdur Reman and Wahab Riaz who did the damage. They grabbed three wickets each. The five day Test match started on 7th January 2011 and was wrapped up in just three days, with Pakistan
emerging victorious. Pakistan won the toss and elected to bowl first.
New Zealand’s first Innings
Brendon McCullum was unable to take part in the Twenty20 series after he had suffered a back injury but returned to the Test team as an opener. Daniel Vettori was also rested for the Twenty20 series and led the team in the longer version of the game. Tim
McIntosh opened the innings with Brendon McCullum and the Pakistani bowlers took just 1.5 overs to remove the opener. Playing his second Test match, Tanvir Ahmed dismissed McIntosh in the slips. McIntosh scored five runs off six balls and Younis Khan pouched
the catch safely at second slip. In form Martin Guptill joined McCullum and had a decent partnership of 83 runs before the latter got out, scoring 56 runs. McCullum, known for his good strike rate smashed seven fours and two sixes in his innings. He chased
a short and wide ball from Gul and was caught by Azhar Ali, fielding at backward point.
New Zealand’s top batsmen Ross Taylor joined Guptill, when the score was 92 for two. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 looked rusty against the spinner and took 27 balls for his six runs, before he was caught by the wicketkeeper. Taylor tried to cut the ball but Adnan Akmal pouched

of Abdur Rehman. Next man to get dismissed was the captain Daniel Vettori. Tanvir Ahmed bowled a dead straight yorker to the left hander. The umpire raised his finger and ended Vettori’s innings. The captain survived for just two balls before he was given
out LBW, for nought. The Kiwi innings was in turmoil at 117 for 7 when Vettori got out.
Kane Williamson and next man in Tim Southee had an 84 run partnership as both batsmen reached their fifties. This partnership stabilized the Kiwi innings and helped them to accumulate a respectable total. Southee scored 56 runs before he got out to Umar
Gul, on the first ball he faced of day two. It was a well directed bouncer. The ball hit his glove and popped to Younis Khan at second slip. Soon after that Williamson was removed for 50 runs by Tanvir Ahmed. Williamson tried to play the ball on the on-side
but managed to get a top edge that was easily caught by the wicketkeeper. Brent Arnel was the last man to get out and Tanvir Ahmed bagged his fourth wicket of the innings. The Kiwis made 275 runs in 97.5 overs at a run rate of 2.81.
