I'm buying a 37" Samsung LCD 720p TV from Sears and I need to know if I need to buy anything additional or do anything else to set this up. Please explain everything in layman's terms because I will have to do this myself...

  1. First off, 720p in that size tv is fine. In order to view HD channels you will need an HD cable or sat box (assuming you have cable tv or satellite service). You may WANT to upgrade your sound system to surround but it's not necessary. Your cable company will supply the box for rent and should have hdmi cables to connect it. Satellite service, you may have to buy the box and cables.

If you get your tv signals from an antenna, you may need a better rooftop one and/or a signal booster to get the digital stations. Try it with what you have for now because your current antenna may work but be prepared to upgrade.

  2. Ask the salesman.

If that 720p is CHEAP it might be a good buy.

Check the MODEL number on the internet.

Put the model number in to Google and see what prices come up.

Nextag usually has a good list.

Office Depot has a clearence on 720P units for cheap.

720 is much better than your old CRT set,

The better oones are 1080 at 120Hz

The next development I think is 1440,

But 720 on a 37" does look pretty darn good.

  3. samsung produced only 37" hd-ready tv.. so at this stage, if yr hse hv a scv digital box or mio-tv hd setup box is very gd enough already for watching local air broadcasting channels.. as for the play-back for yr dvd watching, the best is to get a HDMI(high defination multi-interfaced) player tat can up-conversion frm yr normal dvd player(480 scanning lines to 1080 scanning lines for a HDMI player).. tat means HDMI player can gives u at least 2times sharper movie images compare to normal dvd player) & this player is very affordable selling @ $189-philips to $299-sony depends on wat quality & budget u wan to own. the connection is simply jt a HDMI cable frm yr player to yr tv comparing to normal dvd player is slightly more cables to hook-up to yr tv..anyway, the samsung lcd tat u'r interested hv at least 2-3 HDMI inputs. tat means is more than enough inputs even for yr future use or needs...

  4. Dont get a 720P, if you want a real good picture you need a 1080i

  5. if your going 2 buy at a retail store check out the web sights of all your local stores.if they don,t have in stock what you pick out they can most likely have it sent in a couple days.1080i is better but 720p is good for a buget.i got my 32 in insignia for $500 at best buy.could have done better.tv's are always cheaper after thanksgiving-christmas shopping, and around tax time-begging of feb.

as for theset up it depends on the other componets you have, like if you want to use it as you computer screen or want to hang it on the wall(i did both).being a computer screen can mess it up in the long run.
