First Time Watching Hollyoaks?

Question

I have never watched hollyoaks but I'm interested in watching it because my friends are constantly on about it. Can you give me a quick idea of what its about + the characters please.

At the moment:

The Osbournes: Basically, Jack pretended to be dead to pay off his loans and currently only Darren and Frankie (his son and wife) know he is alive. Steph (his step-daughter) doesn't and Newt (his adopted son) thinks he killed him.

Jack: Nice guy. In debt. Landlord of Dog in the pond

Frankie: Stuck up cow

Darren: Idiotic plank

Steph: Basically hollyoaks version of Sharpey

Newt: More to him than meets the eye. emo

Steph husband, Max, has just died so she is looking after his little brother Tom

Tom: Sweetest 8 year old you'll ever know

The Mcqueens: (where to start) Tina was a surrogate mother for Jacqui but she had been breastfeeding the baby and now wants the baby back. John-Paul is going out with Kieron, the g*y priest. Niall is a member of the Mcqueen family but no-one knows it and he's trying to kill them all.

Tina: shy, quiet has occasional out bursts

Jacqui: tough, tends to bully people

John-Paul: Sweet and cute

Mercedes: town bike

Carmel: Ditsy but sweet

Michaela: Gobby but sweet

Myra: Head of the mcqueens

Niall: Evil!!!

The Valentines: Sasha was on drugs, isn't now. Calvin has killed Sasha's drug dealer and Warren is the only one who knows.

Sasha: Has a bit of a split personality at the moment

Calvin: Good boy turned bad (and hot)

Danny: Town "clown"

Lauren: Newts best friends. bit of an emo

Leo: lazy alcoholic gambler

Val: "mum" figure of the house (just)

I think that's the important story lines. Here's the rest of the characters:

Kris Fisher: Amazing character!!!! Irish, crossdressing bi-sexual

Malachy Fisher: Male equivalent of Mercedes

Mike Barnes: Good dad

Neville Ashworth: blah...

Ravi Roy: Likes to think he's cool and a player

Rhys Ashworth: He's alright. Slept with his sister

Russ Owen: Sweet and hot!!!!!

Ste Hay: Pure evil!!!!

Warren Fox: Bad boy

Zak Ramsey: Scouse boy who falls in love too easily

Amy Barnes: Had a bad life. Has a child and was beaten by Ste, her ex,

Caroline Cooper: Just entered. Not too sure what to think

Cindy Cunningham: GGold diggerand a man eater

Hannah Ashworth: Sweet. Was aanorexicHolly Cunningham: Female eequivalentof Tom

Leila Roy: Away with the fairies. Very spiritual. Fancies Justin

Louise Summers: Bit stuck up

Mandy Richardson: She's alright

hollyoaks is the best and is actually really simple to get into, i am able to follow the story line after missing a few weeks worth of episodes without bother!

just watch it, or go to your freinds house and watch it and ask who's who and what's going on
