  1. i'd recommend some protection stuff too, like wrist bands for when you fall with your hands on the ground, maybe an elbow pad and knee pad, i wear some knee pads sometimes too.

  2. Since it's your first time, I would suggest renting your board, bindings, and boots for now until you get the hang of it. That's the way I started out. You can just tell the people that this is your first time and ask the guy to measure you and get a board and stuff. You will also need to bring a change of clothes for after your done.

  3. You need:

    - board, boots and bindings (I recommend renting them)

    - waterproof jacket and pants

    - warm clothes for under your outerwear

    - a change of clothes for the ride home (sweats are best)

    - hat and gloves

You don't need to know anything about the size of the board that you need.  The staff at the rental shop will ask you your height, weight and skill level and pick out the most appropriate board that they have for you.  I see that someone said it should come up to your nose but as a beginner it's easier to learn on a shorter board.  Board selection is also based on weight as much as height so there isn't any hard and fast "it should be as tall as your chin" rule.

Wear as much non-cotton clothing as possble.  If you can get your hands on long underwear that's perfect for an inner layer and then wear some fleece or other warm clothes over that and your jacket and pants on the outside.  Learning snowboarding involves a lot of falling so it's super important to have waterproof pants, jacket and gloves (for when you push yourself up).

Make sure to take a lesson since it's your first time up and remember to have fun!

  4. the size of the board should go up to your nose.  you will need boots and bindings which you can get at a local ski store or you can rent any of that equipment at the mountian you are going to
