David Rutter, the EA Sports head for the FIFA series, continued his hyping up of the upcoming football simulation title by explaining that this year’s First Touch control would have the same profound effects as Tactical Defending did in FIFA 12.
FIFA 13 introduced a number of new features, which, in essence, reinvigorated the stagnating franchise and gave the series a much needed breath of fresh air. David Rutter, the person who has been at the helm of FIFA’s transformation over the past few years, pointed out a number of things in a recent interview, including how FIFA 12 was based on three features.
He explained that the Impact Engine, the 360 degree dribbling and Tactical Defending were introduced as the foundation for other features to be added on later.
Rutter went on to point out a number of new tweaks as well as a few features such as an improved Physical Impact engine and how physical battles on the pitch would be much more realistic this time around.
Referring to the aforementioned features, Rutter said, “So there are some pretty chunky features there that actually affect the outcome of the game and what you as a user can do within our game. The other part of it is First Touch Control, which affects how likely you as a gamer are likely to control the ball."
It will take some convincing for FIFA fans to take to the concept of First Touch Control actually making a difference as over the years the feature has rarely been implemented properly. Commenting on the features, Rutter went on, “Those things are probably as fundamentally game changing as Tactical Defending was last year. It's not really until you play the game that you understand the magnitude of it - and we said the same thing last year with Tactical Defending.”
Rutter concluded, “That's two substantial gameplay-changing features covered.”
First Touch control is a bit of a touchy subject for core FIFA fans who have been promised the feature would work on a number of occasions, yet it rarely does, however, with the team building on the success of FIFA 12 one can never write off 2012 as the year it finally works.
