First baseman Dan Johnson shows optimism playing with Chicago White Sox – MLB News
After signing a Minor League contract with the Chicago White Sox late in the 2011 offseason, the former Tampa Bay Rays' first baseman Dan Johnson is showing some gratitude for his newly signed team.
He recently spoke in the media for the White Sox and for thier management upon giving him a potential chance to play in their Minor League affiliate.
The left-handed-hitter Johnson discussed with the media on Wednesday and said, "I sense there's an opportunity there, with that said, it's one of those things where I got the opportunity to come back. Obviously, any way I can get into a game situation and have a chance to help the team win would be great, but I have to show I'm healthy and then produce.”
He added, “I being stubborn like a former hockey player and kept trying to play. There was nerve damage and trauma to the bone. I was taking one-handed swings. I was a power hitter had to revamp his game and try to slap the ball past the shortstop.”
Dan, who has played in the Oakland Athletics along with the Tampa Bay Rays in the past, possesses some huge talent and knows his game well. His extraordinary hitting has proved a blessing wherever he has played. Not only is he a great hitter of the ball but his ground fielding has been proven for several years now.
His role in the White Sox Minor League roster will be pretty simple. He is to prepare his game and train for a possible chance to come into the Major League. Chicago can call on him and bump him into the Majors at anytime. Usually he will be called in if a replacement is needed during the regular season.
His game in over four seasons in the Majors has expanded with much improvement. Last season with the Tampa Bay Rays, Dan had a hitting average of .119 along with two home-runs, four RBIs and .187 OBP. His overall average still stands at a consistent .235 hitting along with total 53 home-runs, 188 RBIs and .334 OBP.
In the meanwhile, Dan Johnson is expected to perform at the highest level despite playing in either Minor or Major League.
