Question:

First beach holiday in 15 yrs (to Skiathos)... what do I take????

I'm off to Skiathos in 2 weeks time with my partner and being more used to skiing and Scottish walking holidays I really want to keep my packing to a minimum as the weight allowance is 15kg!!!

I'm staying 5 mins walk from the Koukounaries beach which I've been told is lovely (although busy!!)

I reckon sarongs and a cozzie are a must and obviously mosquito stuff but does anyone have any tips on what to buy beforehand and what to leave until the departure lounge???

I get my travel insurance free with my bank account and I have an EHIC card but what about other things?!?!

Finally, I'm scared STIFF... and I mean really, REALLY scared of wasps (having needed a hospital stay due to standing on a wasps nest and enduring over 100 stings as a child!) so is the wasp problem really as bad as some reviews say??? I stop breathing if one comes near me so i really don't want them destroying my holiday!!

Maybe that's why I've stuck to skiing!!!! ;o)

Thanks for any advice! xx

  1. Painkillers. Lots of them.

Oh and cover yourself in vineager 7 times a day that'll sort the mosquito's.

  2. Hmm, i don't know about that certain beach if it has wasps or not, but i do know that most if not all wasps go out at the afternoon and mainly at night, you won't find many if any at all at the morning up to noon at the beach. So just go to the beach in the morning and you will be fine :-).

  3. You don't need luggage , Greece is land of freedom!

rent a scooter and visit all the island

  4. Cut down on beach wear by using Little Banana beach next to Koukounaries (5 mins walk) a great nudist beach and great company, easy to make friends with people who visit every day.

  5. Take just small amounts of shampoo, conditioner etc, and just one bottle of suncream.......then buy the rest when you get there...it saves having to pack, and carry so much and everything you need is readily available in the supermarkets when you get there.. A good mozzie repellant is ''Mosquito Milk'', this is avalable from most chemists, and comes in roll-on form.....just roll on up and down legs and arms etc....its great! We used this on safari in Kenya, and it really kept them away!!

Just take the clothes you need, minimal amount of toiletries etc ( buy the rest there) Sunglasses, books or magazines. Remember, you can only take small amounts of liquid through security at the airport....by bottld water etc in the departure lounge. Remember, some airports are now 'silent', and no longer make flight announcements, so remember to check the screens regularly for your flight and departure gate details,

Once there, just relax and enjoy yourself!! Remember to use plenty of sunscreen, and drink loads of water during the day. I actually live in Cyprus, but I can vouch for the fact that where you are going is very hot at the moment, and you won't want your holidays ruined by heat exhastion!

Oh, and to be honest....I doubt if you will be bothered too much by wasps!! Hace a great holiday! Enjoy!
