i'm thinking of having a bird for a pet. Do you think a pigeon would be suitable as a first bird? Or should i start with something simpler like a budgie.

  1. no; a Cockatiel

  2. I would get a bird you can interact with.  Pigeons are good only if you want to raise them outside for a hobby.  With a bird like a budgie or cocktail you can bond more easily with.  I don't know what I would do without my little cocktail, she is the queen of the house.

  3. pigeons are boring.  Get a budgie- they're funny, pretty, make some crazy sounds, and you can teach them how to talk and do tricks.

  4. Ringneck doves are extremely docile and gentle. You might want to look into them.

Cockatiels are also good birds from first time bird owners. They are sweet, and just so cute!

Budgies are a good idea, they aren't very hard to care for.

Lovebirds also make wonderful, beautiful pets. They can get nippy, though. So you would need to get a hand fed, tame one.

Remember to do as much research as you can to ensure you get what you expect out of your pet bird. Birds should never be impulse buys.

    Good Luck! ^_~
