  1. Get a Saab or Volvo, if only because they are the safest cars on the road. Saab safety features are built into absolutely every detail of the car. There is actually a "passenger cage" that serves as extra protection from impact and rollover. Crumple zones absorb a huge amount of force (trust me here). I've been in a wreck with one and I can't seem to stress how lucky I feel to have been driving behind the wheel of a 9-5 at that time. They are tanks. Fast, too.

If you want a little more flash, the 1-series isn't the worst idea. I don't disagree with that but I do NOT think a Z4 is wise for a new driver. Even if you trust yourself, don't trust the other drivers on the road. Drunks, speeders, and distracted multi-taskers drive at all hours and you never know who's around you.

From someone who actually went through a very similar experience, trust me when I say that I'm glad I listened when my accountant suggested holding off on major extravagances. Now that I'm 25, I don't hold a mortgage on my home, I've got beautiful cars, and my primary concerns are passing the boards and getting into a good residency program. (I'm a medical student.)

I know you aren't talking about tremendously expensive vehicles but keep in mind that living to see your own 25th is important. Do it safely.

  2. get a prius, theyre g*y, just like you! hope that helps.

  3. My friend was in the same position as you are except he's 18 and live in the U.S. He put all of his into an investment account and took out enough to pay for his college tuition and his Mitsu Evo 9 all paid with cash. Without owe'n any lender any interest. Plus he's happy where he is working and going to school at the same time.

Take it for what it's worth but. You know your dad had good intentions for leaving you that money so don't go off and blow on stupid stuff and letting him down. God bless my friend and Good Luck. You'll surely figure out what vehicle on your own.
