Question:

First day of school kindergarten projects?

I teach at a preschool that has kindergarten (4-5yr olds), and I come after my school and teach art and then afterschool care. And I was wondering what would be some good first day of school art projects?

Everything I have found is just a plate face or a self portrait or doll. I'd like some other ideas, I'm open to anything, there is a large art closet with any supply you could want.

  1. ask the students if they could to write their name and keep it to the end of the school year and tell them to write their name again.

  2. You can take oil pastels and have them draw a sunset on a peice of paper, cut out some black paper in any shape they want and glue it on.

you could make a musical instrument, like maracas, a tissue box  guitar, or even paper plate drums..at playtime the kids can play their music

you can try having them paint a picture about preschool, or any subject for that matter.

you can buy a few boxes, not terribly big, but big enough to hold some paper, and have the kids decorate them and put their name on, and use it as a boz to put all thier work

you can get a few large peices of paper, not really big, but like a placemat, and the kids can decorate them and put on their name, afterwards you  can laminate th paper and use it for the kids snacktime placemats.

you can buy one of those large rolls of paper that you just cut off the roll, and have the kids trace one of their friends, when they are done they can decorate it any way they want, a whole new way of self portrait

you can have them make a calendar, print out a few clalendars, and have them decorate the picture of the top, that way they can have fun and stay organized

you can have them write their name in the center of a peice of paper and decorate around it howerver they want

you can have tem make decoration for the class, one thing is you can cut paper into strips and make a paper chain, then tie on a bit of string to every other loop, and it will look awesome.

bring a camera and take pictures of all the kids, just their faces, and print them up on the computer, glue the face to a big peic of paper and have them draw a body, and write what they want to be when they grow up...my sister did this in grade one, the kids eally enjoyed it.

Read them a story, and they can draw a picture of their favourite character

they can also draw 10 things that mean alot to them tnhat money cant buy, its a good art project and a great way to make them realise that material objects arent everything

SOCK PUPPETS...have them make sock puppets then put on a sock puppet show for you and the rest of the class (they would work in pairs)

cut some paper into small rectangles, give each kid ten, they can draw on them, then glue them into a pyramid

you can cut paper like booksmarks, and have them decorate bookmarks with their name and stuff

Hope this helps, I will edit my answer if I think of any more.
