First drum set?

I have become bored playing my friends drum set and have decided to purchase my own. Now i have or will have about 350$ and afeter checking out guitarcenter.com i realized thats not really alot..

whats a good brand to buy and a good place to buy from?

  1. You will be disappointed if you buy a cheapo, no-name kit. Tama, Pearl, Gretch, Sonar all make 'entry level' kits, though you will have to spend a little more if buying new, you can get in at under $500. For a bargain, try looking locally on Craigslist, using those names as keywords. Save your money and wait until Christmas is approaching for the best deals, folks will be offloading the drums they thought they wanted. Look for drums that have a reinforcing wooden ring, otherwise they will go out of round. Look for solid hardware. Remember, a set of not so expensive high-hat cymbals can cost $350..If you want to make noise, jump in. If you want to make music, be patient and shop carefully.
