First event of the 2012 SWATCH FIVB World Tour ready to start in Brazil – Volleyball news
Double gender competition of Brasilia Open will mark the opening of 2012 SWATCH FIVB World Tour.
The tournament is scheduled to take place from April 15-22 in Brazilian Capital City Brasilia.
Men’s and women’s duos from 33 countries of the world will be on board to showcase their amazing game tactics. The tournament will be opened with country quota playoffs, which will be followed by the qualification tournaments. The high-ranked teams will
join the competition in the Main Draw.
Eventually, the tournament will enter the final phase and only better teams will capture the spotlight.
In the women’s competition, a tough competition is likely to happen between Brazilian and American teams. The home duo of Juliana Felisberta Silva and Larissa Franca will be challenged by their American top notch rival duo of Misty May-Treanor and Kerri
Walsh.
The Brazilian duo is determined to maintain the gap between themselves and May-Treanor/Walsh. Furthermore, the Chinese team of Chen Xue and Xi Zhang will also be among the top teams of the tournament.
On the other hand, the men’s competition will also feature some hot action of beach volleyball. The Brazilian champions Alison Cerutti and Emanuel Rego will cross their way with American stars Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser.
The American team did pretty well in the last two editions of the tournament and is currently enjoying a great form. There will be heated competition if the two teams will share the same court.
The FIVB executive vice-president, CSV president and Brazilian Volleyball Federation President, Dr Ary Graça, expressed high hopes that the local teams will benefit the competitive edge in the game.
He stated, “Our capital city is already accustomed to seeing Brazilian athletes on the podium. Of the 18 medals on the line in the last three seasons, Brazil have won nine – three gold, three silver, and three bronze. I wish success and the best of luck
to all of our athletes and I hope that we can increase these numbers."
Qualification for the 2012 London Olympic Games will be high on the agenda for many teams on this SWATCH World Tour. As the event of Brasilia Open in approaching near the excitement is rising high among teams and fans.
