First ever National Women's Squash Championship to be played in Pakistan
As stated by the secretary of the Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa Squash Association and former professional, Qamar Zaman, the first ever National Senior Women's Squash Championship in the history of Pakistan is expected to be played at the Pakistan Air Force Squash Complex
in Peshawar from the 18th to the 20th of February 2011.
Zaman said in a press conference organized by the Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa Sports Writers Association that this was the first time in the history of the sport of Squash that the Province of Kyber Pakhtunkhuwa had been given the honour of putting together the championship.
It will feature over sixteen top professionals from all over the nation.
According to Qamar, the arrangements required to organize the tournament were made in a timely manner. In addition, the former professional paid respect to the Pakistan Air Force, crediting it for playing an essential role in helping squash progress and promoting
the sport throughout the country.
The championship will be commencing on the morning of the 18th of February and will be attended and inaugurated by Senator Farah Aqil Shah, who is the honorary chief guest at the event.
Furthermore, the Provincial Minister for Sports, namely Mr. Syed Aqil Shah has also been requested to grace the championship with his presence on the 20th of February for the prize distribution.
Qamar went on to state that the organization will be arranging a number of events this year, inclusive of two senior championships, four junior championships and one junior championship for girls.
The championships will feature prize money of up to 70,000 Rupees. Zaman also stated that he was very grateful to Mr. Syed Aqil Shah, the Provincial Minister for Sports, to have allowed an increase in the association's grant.
Earlier, the association was only given a mere 25,000 rupees annually. However, the association's grant was increased to 0.6 million, which played a major role in the improvement as far as arranging and organizing tournaments is concerned.
In addition, Zaman thanked the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) for making an effort and working in the most dedicated manner in order to promote Squash.
Qamar believes that the only reason Pakistani professionals are lagging behind in the sport is due to the fact that they do not put in enough hard work.
Furthermore, the former professional added that hard work is the key to success and that without it, it would be hard for any sort of a player to make it to the top ten rankings.
