First ever pap smear test - But I'm so ticklish, what can I do?

I'm really REALLY ticklish! I cannot stand people touching my arms/legs because it tickles so much! After this whole cervical cancer thing in the news (after Jade Goody), I've been thinking about when I have to have my first pap smear (not for about 9 years, I'm 16 and live in England, so don't have to have one until I'm 25!) and am really worried that, besides the uncomfortableness of it all, I'm going to look really stupid because I'll be wriggling all over the place cause I'm such a ticklish person! Has anybody else had this problem? What can I do about it???

  1. Trust me, you won't find it ticklish!

  2. I had this problems as well... I told my physician she chuckled a bit said its more normal than I thought. She started by touching my thigh so I could get the giggles out. Then she explained everything to me I felt a little more comfortable but the actual PAP part is not ticklish you'll see.

  3. its completley normal. all people think it feels different. when i went for my first one my gyno said, alright this might either tickle you or youll feel uncomfortable. they do it for a living, theyre not gonna think your weird if your ticklish. just relax as much as possible and try your hardest to slide your butt as closest to your feet so your butt & v****a are raised higher. you wont feel as much, and it wont hurt at all. i say go for it, you dont want to risk the fact of cervical cancer

  4. It will NOT tickle!!  Don't even worry about that. It's a whooooole different kind of thing

  5. Just don't think about it. Try and relax and maybe grit teeth.

  6. I'm super ticklish and a pap smear does not tickle at all. The doctor won't even touch your arms and legs. They do a quick swab inside you and it's over. The whole pelvic exam only takes about three minutes. The most important thing is to breathe deeply and relax.

  7. Talk to the nurse and let her know that you are very sensitive.  She will tell the doctor and he will be as gentle as possible with you.  It is uncomfortable and that may outweigh the fact that you are ticklish.

  8. believe me it won't tickle, with your legs outstretched there won't be a problem about the doctor touching your legs to tickle you
