It means away from keyboard.

AFK = away from keyboard

like if somebody leaves to go to the bathroom, thay say AFK

so dont worry, they arent insulting you

This is a very good question and i didn't know the answer.  But thanks to you,  and the reply someone has already given you,  i now know what it means and can stop thinking that it has anything to do with that four-letter word :-)  The f and k were responsible for that thought!
