  1. look for something that isnt a Harley. Save your money and get a japanese bike that will actually work in 2 years

  2. Get anything but a Sportster.  The 883 and 1200 are embarrassments to the line and should be discontinued.  not to mention they are total chick bikes.  Unless you plan on having some reassignment surgery, I wouldn't get one... ever...

  3. look for?

look for oil stains on the ground and follow that and you will find what you're looking for.

  4. Buying a girls bike

Dont forget the white basket and zing-zing bell

  5. what do you mean, 'what I should look for?

    can you be more specific?

  6. a different bike. Go big twin or metric cruiser. Sportys are da** uncomfortable without major mods, and when you're done you have enough money invested to buy the big twin or M.C.

  7. Ask to see a Nightster. It's their newest, coolest Sportster.

    Road King Classic.

  8. go to a big bike event and test drive them like Daytona Bike Week

  9. all of those years came with a carburetor in 07 all the  Sportster's  they came with EFI, I currently own an 07 Sportster 883 that I've put over 20,000 miles so far and have had no problems with it at all if you can afford it go with an 07 or newer Sportster or the Nightster

  10. First, read all you can about Sportsters (Google is your friend!)  Harley makes small changes from year to year, and you might find you want one year more than another.  At least you will know a lot more about them, and what questions to ask.

There are any number of web pages with tips and advice on buying a used motorcycle.  Again, Google 'buying a used motorcycle'.  You can look at a bike and see whether it's been really cared for or thrashed.

Search EBay and Craigslist to get an idea of what a used Sportster goes for.  You want have a pretty good idea before you negotiate.

Finally, consider the previous owner.  People buy motorcycles for all kinds of reasons, from 'just transportation' to an image enhancement tool.  If the guy is wearing a lot of jewelry, has elaborate hair, and talks real loud, you might not want to buy a motorcycle he's been using for a year or two.
