I had a baby girl 7 weeks ago, bled for approx 4 weeks, and have begun my first period 2 days ago. I had very bad cramps yesterday and went to my doctor. I was prescribed Naproxen. This morning the pain has changed. It feels like I am having one continuous contraction, its extremely painful in my upper stomach and the middle of my back. Nothing takes it away. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, any tips on getting rid of this? or easing the pain?

  1. I definately experienced this!

I gave birth June 11, and bled on and off for 5 weeks. Then my period came.

My goodness, it was horrible pain, and very very heavy! I was like "Okay, I just bled for 5 weeks, what more could I possibly have left in there!!"

I looked it up on the internet, and they say that your first period after baby is something else.. lol

I had very bad PMS the first time too, which I dont' normally experience. Chocolate cravings and all.

Before I was pregnant, I had HORRIBLE period cramps, like crawl into fetal position and cry cramps, and my dr prescribed me Naproxen as well, but I find that regular IB Profen (Advil, Motrin etc) definately works the best. Hot baths are wonderful as well. I find tylenol dries out your mouth, and if you take too many you can get constipated!

Try the IB Profen though, that's my best friend for cramps!

  2. Naproxen is very hard on the stomach.I know because my doctor gave me a prescription for the same medication. Even though I've never had children, I have always had severely painful periods. I now take over-the-counter medication like Midol Extra Strength or Pamprin Extra Strength. Many drug stores carry cheaper generic brands that are just as good. However, since you've just recently given birth, I'd see your doctor first and let him/her know how the medication affected you. You may need a further check-up.

  3. I also had my baby girl 7 weeks ago (June 23) & started again this week too. I've noticed I had worse cramps & everything than usual but it hasn't been so painful that I had to go to the doctor for it.
