Question:

First period problem?

My younger sister just had her first period. I've read in many places the first is like spotting, lasts a very short space of time and the proper first one doesn't come for a few months after that. For me that was correct. However, hers is a proper one. It's very very heavy and she's been in constant pain for 3 days now (but I'm taking this with a pinch of salt because she does like to exaggerate!). Is there anything wrong? I've never heard of such an awful first period.

  1. My first was the same way . . . really heavy and it lasted for more then a week. My mom ended up taking me to the doctor and the doctor put me on birth control to stop it. It did stop and it's been regular ever since. I'd give it some more time and see what happens. I'd let your mom know too, in case it gets worse! Have your sis take some pain killers. There a girls best friend when she's PMSing! LOL!

  2. my first period didnt hurt me at all its been 8 months i have em and  it wuz never that awful except it hurts in the stomach sometimes

  3. i didnt spot. i was VERY heavy. it diff 4 diff gurls.

  4. She may have spotted very lightly a month or two ago and not noticed it.  Also, I didn't spot, I got my first period and bled for 4 or 5 days.  It was a little lighter than others but not by much.  The problem with predicting first periods is that they're irregular.  Really she's probably fine.  If it lasts more than a week and a half, go to a doctor.  Otherwise, she's absolutely normal.
