Question:

First question, so be nice! :) Wondering about emails from my freecycle group.?

I am signed up to get individual emails from the group instead of the daily digest. I get the individual emails, but all at once, not as soon as they're posted. Sometimes I even go a couple of days without getting anything. By the time I get them, things have been offered and taken and I'm just reading them for the first time! I don't get it. Can anybody help me with this?

Thanks!

  1. All freecycle groups are moderated.  That means that the moderator checks and approves all messages before they are posted to the site and sent out to members.  The moderators usually approve a batch of messages at one time so that might be why you receive a bunch all at once.  If Yahoo's mail servers are extremely busy or having problems, this can really slow down the message delivery to the members.  I have found that by going to the freecycle groups site where I'm a member, I can check to see what's being offered and click reply to send message to the person offering an item.  This works for me and I don't have to wait for an email to arrive to see the offer.

I know that some group's emails have been slow in being sent out by Yahoo this past week.  They are aware of this and I think they have pretty well fixed it.  I have been getting my group emails promptly today.

  2. no matter the type of group, many are experiencing mail issues for more than two weeks. delay in mail can be determined whose end is at fault by the mail header. it could be Yahoo's server, or it could be your server. to get help, and have help reading and understanding mail headers, you can send in the help form and include the full mail header

until it's fixed, you might want to read right from the groups homepage
