First round line up set for 2012 China Open – Snooker news
Last-32 line up for upcoming 2012 China Open has been formulated after the conclusion of qualifiers at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
After three days of tough playing schedule for the qualification of 2012 China Open, 16 potters have finally made their way into the initial round of the event where they will meet the World Top 16 cuemen. The 2012 China Open will be televised live from
the Beijing University Student Gymnasium. Defending Champion, England’s Judd Trump will inaugurate the tournament playing the opening match-up against compatriot Jimmy White.
The final round of 2012 China Open qualifiers witnessed some tussling encounters at the academy arena. Some of the potters, who started their qualifying campaign from the first round, failed to capitalise in their ultimate match and crashed out.
Several big names made their way into the first round including Jimmy White, former World Snooker Champion, Peter Ebdon, the 2012 Snooker Shootout winner Barry Hawkins and the former seven-time World Snooker Champion, Scotland’s Stephen Hendry.
The final day of the qualifiers saw some outstanding clashes at the baize. England’s Tom Ford faced tough resistance from compatriot David Grace and was able to force the game into the decider frame where he triumphed over Grace to surge into the televised
stage. Ford will meet Stephen Lee in Round 1 clash in the Far East.
China’s Li Yan began his run from the second round and reached the fourth round playing impressively. He faced Ireland’s Fergal O’Brien in the ultimate qualifying session and tested his skills. The match finished by 5-4 in favour of O’Brien after he won
the deciding set.
Another Chinese potter, Liu Chuang also had a great start in the qualifiers and cruised into the fourth round beating Andrew Norman and Robert Milkins. However, he failed to perform accordingly in the final round and missed a place in the televised stage
after he lost to the 2012 Snooker Shootout winner, England’s Barry Hawkins by 5-0.
England’s Ben Woollaston had a tremendous run in the qualifiers and finally earned a chance to play in the televised stages of the event. He came from qualifiers Round 2 to book his place in the Last-32 after beating Wales’ Ryan Day by a close score line
of 5-4. Woollaston will play against the 2012 Welsh Open winner, China’s Ding Junhui in Round 1 of 2012 China Open.
