First round of Northern Trust Open suspended due to bad light, 30 players remain on course
The first round of the Northern Trust Open was suspended due to bad light at Riviera Country Club. All the remaining players will complete their game before the second round on Friday, February 17, 2012.
The exciting episode of the PGA Tour (Professional Golf Association) staged tournament is in process.
All the golfers are delivering their best in Pacific Palisades, California. However, on the other hand, tough windy conditions at Riviera are requiring extra efforts from the players.
A total of 144 players are in the field list of the Northern Trust Open at Riviera. 30 players are still left to complete their round one.
Now, due to the suspended game, the remaining players will play first to finish their round on Friday, starting from 7am.
Making a new schedule for the remaining players early is an effective decision by the officials. It will not affect the timing of the second round. It will start on the scheduled time.
Phil Mickelson is the current leader of the tournament. The 41-year-old American professional scored a 5-under par and 66 strokes in total. He has a one-stroke lead over J.B. Holmes and Hunter Mahan.
Mickelson scored six birdies. Delivering impressive strokes in tough windy conditions is something most golfers seek.
Similarly, Holmes and Mahan also played well on Riviera Country Club and completed their round while tying for the second position.
Both the 29-year-old Americans scored a 4-under 67 each. Being the same age, same region and scoring the same number of birdies, bogeys and double-bogey, is an exciting coincidence.
However, the only difference between them at Riviera was of scoring on different holes.
Mahan was going pretty well till the 17th hole. He was 6-under par, but a double-bogey on the 18th took him down and he ended up tied with Holmes.
The current world No. 1 Luke Donald is on the 14th position. He suffered greatly due to the winds and only scored a 1-under 70.
He scored two birdies and a bogey. His driving distance and accuracy also got affected by the unfavourable conditions.
According to the weather forecast, conditions on Friday will be pleasant. Winds are expected to blow at an average speed. Now this favourable condition sounds positive for all the players.
Those who faced difficulties in the first round at Riviera Country Club have ample chances to cover up their losses on Friday.
