Laird said, “You know, last year was a good year. Played well at Bay Hill and had a couple good tournaments, middle, end of the year. But you know, obviously after winning a tournament like Bay Hill you want to try and get your game to go further on, but
it's kind of hard to keep that happening sometimes”.
American Blake Adams also had a great day in the opening round of the event and surged into contention with strong six-under, 67 on the leaderboard.
The 36-year-old Oklahoma native is in search for his maiden win on the PGA Tour and is hoping to carry on with his strong performance over the weekend.
Starting off the day with a birdie on the second hole, Adams dropped a shot at par-three, 3rd and went into a birdie spree of five straight birdies to rise to the top of the leaderboard early in the morning.
He made the turn to fall for his second and last bogey of the day at par- four, 10th before carding another two birdies before calling it a day.
He said, “Obviously any time you finish on 9 with five straight birdies, it's a good day. I was fortunate to get out early. Had perfect greens”.
Adams insisted that he wanted to have fun rather than succumbing to pressure coming out of bad form and disappointing bids earlier in the year.
Adams finished for an outright third on the first day of the event, trailing the leaders by one shot.
The young Kevin Na also played one of the best rounds of the season, pulling in a five-under, 67 to settle for a joint fourth alongside countryman Ben Crane.
The 28-year-old South Korean turned american who won his first PGA Tour event last year, the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, surged to the top of the leaderboard with six birdies on the back nine.
He made the turn, hoping to continue with his birdie run to the top on the front nine but fell for a terrible doublr-bogey six on the opening hole of the front nine.
To be continued...
