He regained his composure on the very next hole, pulling in two consecutive birdies to make up for the loss. He then carded a birdie-bogey-birdie to call it day settling two shots behind the leader.
Na confessed that his swing coach Dale Lynch had a major contribution in his current form and said that he is quite enthusiastic about his bid in the star-studded event.
Na said, “My iron shots were feeling really good, right on today. I got a little help at the beginning of the week from Dale Lynch. He's my coach, and he helped me out. I had a little ear infection last week. I was getting over that, and I feel pretty good
this week. I hit a lot of good shots”.
Na pulled in a strong joint third in the year 2009 and is hoping his blistering form would help him land the elusive title where so many have failed in their careers.
He added, “You know, the course is an awesome golf course. If I'm driving the ball well, this is a place where I feel like I have a chance. I played well in '09 finishing third, and every year I come here I look forward to it”.
Further down the leaderboard comes the formidable Ben Crane, a winner of seven professional titles including four on the PGA Tour.
Crane finished tied for the fourth place alongside Na with an impressive five-under, 67.
The lanky American started off with three alternative birdies on the front and made the turn to fall for the only bogey of the day at the 10th.
He carded two consecutive birdies and closed the day with one more towards the end.
Crane admitted that he has a knack for the Players Championship and regarded it his favourite tournament in the calendar year.
Na has won five professional events so far in his career after turning professional in the year 2001.
The weather conditions are expected to deteriorate in the coming days and course is reckoned to be difficult to deal with over the weekend.
The opening round scores are likely to play a major role in the overall aggregate results on the final day.
