Any tips? I`m not nervous...but on the other hand my instructor is extremely nervous. I can understand that...he`s responsible for all of us.

So, how was your first solo? :)

  1. Fly with a couple other instructors and see what they have to say. It they all say that then you shouldn't solo.

  2. My first solo I had the tower forget about me on a 6 mile downwind. when i finally got to short and final there was a pack of coyotes running across the numbers! All on Halloween! LOL....still one of the greatest moments of my life!!!!

  3. Its okay to be a little nervous. Your first solo is a huge deal.

Just my opinion if you are not a little nervous you may not be getting it.

Perhaps your instructor could be sensing this.

One more aside your second solo may be a lot more challenging.

Good luck it will be a day you will never forget!!

  4. I am still recovering in hospital and am just able to type. Luckily we all had parachutes.

  5. Ask yourself what it is about your flying that makes your instructor nervous.  Perhaps you need a different instructor.

It's a bit tense at first, but by the time you are off the ground, you will be so busy flying the airplane that you will forget to be scared.  And then you are back, and your mission is accomplished.  Time to be happy!

  6. Just do everything exactly the same as if the instructor was there.  Talk yourself through everything you're doing.  Go through the pre-landing check list just like you normally would.  Say all of your speeds and altitudes out loud, etc.  You'll be on the ground before you know it.

  7. You will never forget this day.  Take pictures and wear a good shirt so they can cut off the back.

  8. Good luck I am sure it will be fine.  I am hoping to go to the USA to do my training :)

RE instructor - Why dont you ask him why???

    Tom

  9. 1st solo was great - a bit of excitement, apprehension and the nostalgia (missing the instructor).

Your instructor, from within, knows the status of you all. Some instructors do not extol praise lest the students drift into complacency. His chiding a student shows he is not satisfied that the person can go solo and nothing else. One thing I can tell you with confidence is that he will not allow any of you to solo, under he himself is fully satisfied.

So go ahead and enjoy your first solo flight and I sincerely wish you a safe landing.

  10. If your instructor is so nervous, is he certain you'll make it?

  11. I found my first solo relaxing and not that different as many circuits before. My instructor wouldn't talk during some of the circuits so it felt as if he was there right beside me not saying anything. Overall pretty good.

    Good Luck!

  12. My first solo was one of the most exciting moments of my life to date.  Remember the feeling when your main wheels come up off the ground because you'll never experience another moment like that.

How many students has your instructor had?  Many are nervous if they are new and still insecure about their ability to judge when someone is ready to solo.
