Question:

First speeding ticket, what do I do?

I got a speeding ticket for going 70mph in a 50mph zone, but I don't want my parents finding out about where I got it. I was coming home from NJ (I was already in PA) when I got the ticket, but my parents thought I was somewhere else. If I tell them I got a ticket (so they won't be surprised about an increase in insurance premium) at the place where I was supposed to be at instead of where I actually got it, is there any way for them to find out the truth? Any suggestions on what I should do are greatly appreciated.

  1. We have all been through this type of scenario. The best thing that you can do is to fess up to your parents from the start. Telling lies about it can only make matters worse when they eventually find out about it, which they surely will, so take it on the chin ,in future step a bit lighter on the gas pedal !!.

  2. I don't think the place you received the ticket will be listed anywhere but on the ticket and on your driving record but probably not on  insurance company records.

  3. You will have to tell your insurer or your insurance will be void. If the insurance is in your parents name, chances are they will have to notify the insurer and even if they let you notify them, they will write to your parents for payment of the additional premium, and your parents would be likely to phone the insurer to ask what it is for, so they will find out.

I don't think your parents will know where the offence took place. Just what the offence was, but just be open and honest with them, it will save all the hassle if you don't tell them the truth and they find out.

  4. 1) you greatly endangered the lives of others on or near the roadway

    - that ton of metal has a lot of kinetic energy

    2) you were not where you said you would be

    3) you have no remorse except from getting caught

what should you do  - tell your parents

they hate surprises that deal with THEIR money

maybe they will suggest traffic school

  5. They could ask to see the ticket, just as I would if my daughter got one.  That would ruin the plan right there.

Though it's been a very long time since i've got an in-state ticket, I believe, when running a DMV check, the area the infraction occurred in appears.  I could be wrong on this, however.

I would ultimately suggest you just fess up to the now, instead of getting into a string of lies, coming from experience, they always come back to bite you in the butt, and being honest upfront is just the better choice.  The hard right over the easy wrong, sucks at first, but really is better in the long run.

  6. If you want to surprise your parents, let them find out on their own. The insurance doesn't tell you when and where the ticket was received.

If you don't want to surprise them, simply tell them you got a red light ticket or something like that, and say you paid already and didn't show it to them because you were embarrassed or something like that
