Question:

First speeding ticket?

Ok...

I got my first speeding ticket tonight....

usually I got 5 miles under the speed limit but I wasnt in my car so I wasnt used to it so I ended up going 5 miles over (55 in a 50)

well either thespeedometer is broken or the cop is.... but either way he clocked me doing 73 in a 50 (my speedometer was reading about 56/57 when he turned his lights on)

gave me a ticket for $215

Right now I dont care if he was right or wrong or about paying the money....

I'm just like really upset.... (and by that I mean pretty much freaking out....)

I've never gotten pulled over by the cops for any reason..... and people are always making fun of me for going 5-10 miles under the speed limit....

and I just.... Idk.... I'm like crying and stuff (and I dont normally do that)

I already told my parents about it....

but its just...... Idk...... I'm just really upset about the whole thing....

Got any suggestions?

Anything to help calm me down?

Any pep talks?

  1. Don't worry yourself to death ! If this is your first speeding citation just show up on your court date and ask the DA if you can plea to an improper equipment charge. This will be a fine but it will save your insurance from going up. This only works for first time offenders. You could ask for a PJC which means the judge will not charge you this time and possible waive the fine of the citation. You must still pay court cost. on average around $ 125.00 but if you get another speeding citation within 3 yrs. both citation will go on your insurance and that will be very expensive. I would see about paying for the improper equipment charge.    Good Luck !

  2. the police have the speedometers checked regularly.  I am going to guess yours is messed up.

    Pay the ticket,  move on

More tickets to come.  The average person gets one ticket every 3-4 years

  3. First off, you may want to take it to court as it is a big fine and you weren't driving your normal car, which wouldn't let your ticket be thrown out, but may be lowers. I would try that route. Also, speeding is not a big deal, many people get speeding tickets, it is just cuz of the car you were speeding instead of your -5 to -10. Good Luck!

  4. you are sure he radar-ed  you? that's odd...

i'm not sure if you should fight it or not, but first speeding tickets aren't that much of a big deal.

usually people go to traffic school which you can do online and if you do go to traffic school i don't think you have to pay for the ticket. (in california)
