I'm 16 and going to be a junior this fall. I want to go out for basketball but I don't want be a fool.

What should I expect in terms of tryous, games, etc. When does the season start? What kind of things should I not do that new players might do?

I have a brand new basketball hoop, exercise routines are appreciated.

Going to be starting this routine:

40-60 minutes of walking half of it up hill.

500 Crunches throughout the day, 100 each sit down.

500 Push ups through the day, 100 each sit down.

30 minutes of running (in place, weather sucks)

30-60 minutes of basketball practice

Suggestions?

Also going to eat extremely healthy.

  1. Well I will give you a work out that doesn't kill you

will right you a good basketball workout schedule...

    1. Jog around the block a couple times to get warm up then sit down and stretch...(stretching is the most important thing to do when working out on any sport) you don't not want to get a shin split or stuff like that.

    2. After stretching every single muscle in your body lift weights (in basketball you need to be strong both legs and arms..) you use both a lot.

    3. Get out on the court and do some foundations... (like dribbling the ball in between your legs, the figure 8, dribble with your weaker hand, act like your defending someone.)

    4. Layups both sides...coaches will definetly look for good layups in basketball...do your weaker side a little more than you donimate arm

    5. Shoot....3 pointers, free throws, forward shots,

    6. optinal...if you have a friend around play 1 on 1 *nothing better than challenging your self each day against some one* if you don't want to play 1 on 1 play horse/pig, around the world.. to work on shooting... if you don't have a friend act like someone on a different team and act like your playing them

    7. run again...the most important thing about basketball is being able to run up and down the court...if you get tired they will take you out and you won't have as much playing time.

for practicing you don't need to practice every single day...just like 5 times a week...and one more thing...the lifting weight thing you don't have to do every single time but make sure you do it at least 3 times a week too.

always do you weaker hand in shooting and dribbling....

don't do the stuff you suggested... only do like 50 crunches and pushups 3 times a wk...(you don't want to kill yourself or injure yourself so that you can't try out, you want to practice more basketbal then working out...40-60 of walking half of it up the hill...??? run instead around the block...

    have fun while practicing...

    hope this helps

  2. do more than that and if u have never played organized basketball b4 u need to practice at least 3 hours of basketball a day and eventually need to get some scrimmages in with some friends

  3. just relax you don't have to do all of that. I'm one of the best ballers in my town and I don't do any of that. I just am agressive and I just stay in shape. All you really got to do is get strong, keep your wind up, and just ball on people.

  4. Wow your really killing yourself. I don't have any suggestions just try not to pull a muscle with all those work outs. Your body may get over worked. You should take a day between those workouts and play bball everyday.

  5. well al dat workin out mite not b dat gud...try doin it every other day but play ball everyday though it helps you improve...and as for tryouts its mostly scrimmaging to see what positions you can play...well at least that's how they do it at my school
