  1. My first bird was a parrotlet. It was cute but it bit me. Hard. It broke the skin once. Then my brother stepped on it.

I have had three cockatiels in my lifetime and they are sooooo cute!!! I own two at the moment. A breeding pair. They are so sweet!!! The male talks. So cockatiels can learn to talk.

I would make this choice by yourself. It is your decision. Don't let others make it for you.

  2. i have 3 parakeets. They are good birds, and are very interesting to watch. Just keep looking, and see which ones you like the most!

  3. i just got my first bird 2 yrs ago i got a cockatiel. she is such a good bird but keep shopping i also wanted a peaach faced love bird they are so adiorable

  4. When you are going to buy a new pet you should consider how much you want the pet, how much time you are willing to put into caring for it and what you want to get back in return. How old are you?

If you are still living at home good a budgie is a good starter bird although personally unless you were going to spend ALOT of time with it I would not get one by itself.

Lovebirds are nice but unless you get them handraised they can be a bit of a handfull- and they can get quite noisy. One lovebird by itself will need several hours of your attention each day to keep it happy. They are quite bossy little birds.

Cockatiels are good but they can also have some dominance issues. They can learn to talk and mimic, and they are a good sized little parrot, but they can also get quite noisy.

If you are a bit older and serious about keeping birds as pets- want to put alot of time into them, and be rewarded by the most fantastic, loving, unusual pets than you should consider getting a handraised cockatiel, conures (Green Cheekeds are the best for beginners- they cost less to buy and arent quite so noisy as the larger conures) and quakers can all make great pets for the first time birdo. They do need a bit of work, handling every day, and lots of mental stimulation, but I think its worth it.

  5. a parakeet or a cockatiel are good first birds.  Read everything you can on them first, and ask your friend for advice as well.  Don't try and go for a parrot right off the bat, they can be much more difficult for a first time bird owner.

  6. sins this is your first time buying a bird you should get some thing like a budgie, love bird, or cocktail  i would say the budgie is the best bird for beginners

let me tell you wat kind of birds they are

Budgies:they are the best for beginners there some times quit but other times there loud. they are playful birds once they trust you and they can live with cocktails

LoveBirds:there ok for beginners. if your family is quit then your lovebird will be quit to. i think they are the most playful birds but the sad part is that they cant live if other birds like budgies and cocktail becaCocktailill fight to the death

Cocktail: there not that good for beginner but if you read books about them then you can get them.  they can talk if you train them. they are very good singer like if you play a song like jingle bell they will repeat the beat and it's so cool. they can live with budgies

    i would recommend a budgie  that's wat i did

if you dont like wat i said than tell me wat kind of bird you want like tell me how big you want it and how you want it to act etc

and if nothing here help than look up web sites about birds and that will help you find one that you like

  7. Parrotlets are wonderful little birds but I don't know if I'd recommend them for a first-time bird owner.  They're feisty little birds with a lot of attitude.  They frequently don't make good first-time birds for teens or children because they need a lot of patience and direction when they get a little stubborn :-)

A cockatiel or a budgie is probably a better choice for a first bird.  If you can, look for a breeder who hand feeds and *socializes* the babies.  That way you'll buy a bird that is used to being handled.  A bird purchased from a pet store or bird shop has frequently either not been handled at all or has not been handled for a period of time.  They are a bit harder to tame than a hand fed, socialized baby from a breeder.

    Good luck!

  8. if you want a bird you can just watch a finch is good. But if you wanted one hand-tame,then i would get a cockatiel, parakeet,or parrolets are good, too.(parolets can be expensive though).Finches are the cheapest.

  9. a cockatiel is a perfect 1st rime bird but you could get a parolet for a first time bird if u need some help just ask your friend or ask on here if u have any problems

  10. You should get a cockatiel.

I am also considering to get one.

Cockatiels are gentle and can learn to talk and do little tricks.

they may be shy for a little but they will soon like you.

My opinion is to get a cockatiel.

  11. Parrotlettes are actually not a really good idea for a young person or a first time bird owner

Stick with something starter like a cockatiel or a parakeet.

After you get into the hang of bird ownership and have the time to put into them Parrots require a LOT of time. you have to chop veggies feed bath, clean cage interact and play with them a great deal during the day and remember that they are going to live for MANY years

Parrotlets will live 30 years or more

    How old are you now?

    Ar you going to college?

do you play sports or in clubs in school?

Like to be out after school or weekends with friends?

Who takes care and spends time with the bird when that is happening?

do you have a boyfriend Again unsure of age but when you do again need to fit time in for study him job sports or friends etc etc

Better to get a family bird now one that will be  the whole families and you spend a lot of time with it. and see just what is involved. Again remember that parrotlets will be with you from now to High School to college till you are married and when you have kids. Are youy prepared to make such a long term commitment?

Also read up on whatever species you do plkan on getting go go google.com nd search for the different species and read read read.

I have done rescue for years and can not tell you how many birds get given up due to young people not caring for them

again get a family bird if in fact the whole family is willing and interested.
