Ok, we're both catholic and i dont have families here, they're overseas. I tho i would ask u if anybody knows about christening, like do we the "parents" have to buy the christening clothing? and host the party celebration? what else do we have to do?

  1. Im baptizing my son in 2 weeks, which is also his 1st birthday party. The Godparents are usually the ones who buy the outfit and give a donation to the church. You host the party. You and the Godparents have to attend a pre-baptismal class as well as talk to the priest to set the date.

  2. Contact your parish to schedule the Baptism.  They can give you much of the information.

You can get some information from the source, but you still need to contact the church.

  3. Hi there. I am catholic, husband isn't but I did hear from a friend of mine's mom that the godmother is suppose to buy the christening gown. Mine didn't but we had one in the family; very old and lovely so we used that. And even if we didn't have that, I had no idea she was suppose to get that. I'm sure there are plenty of moms out there buying their own. It just depends. You could always call your parish to see if they would know.

Godparents (or one or the other) could host it but so could you. We went back & forth on the issue; have it at our house or my brother & sis-in-law (brother is godfather) because they asked us to have it there. They wanted to. We ended up going with that idea. Not enough time to clean our house and such. So I guess it depends on how you want to do things.

Bring a nice soft, towel with you if your baby will be fully immersed. The nun at my parish lent us one. We brought one but it was kind of small. The one she let us use was better.

EDIT: I forgot about the donation thing. I know of someone at our parish who donated money to the parish for their own son's baptism. We were going to until my aunt decided she wanted to as her gift to our baby's baptism.
