Ok this is my first time going out to fish at Belmont Shore off the pier and my girlfriend and I are going to do it together as a couple {we both think it looks fun}, I need to know every thing I'll need {useful things, not things just to look all fancy smancy!} Can someone please give me some tips of what kind of rod, hooks and bait to take? Do I need some kind of fishing permit? How much do these permits cost and where do I buy it at? What should we be prepared to do or take and so on. Please let us know, thank you in advance!

  1. in the LBC you'll need a GUN! just kidding..

pier fishing was free for all when I lived in CA about 3 years ago--you will want to check with fish and game to make sure. Uhmm..you dont catch much from the pier but its cheap and loads of fun. The problem is, you MAY catch something kinds big and you then need a pier gaff...sometimes other fishermen will come to your aide sometimes no ones got one!

grab a 7-8 foot rod, medium action--a spinning reel will suit you fine. Look up a local bait and tackle shop--the guy working there knows ALL!  He can give you advice on what size hooks, bait, etc...Ive always have good luck frozen squid & anchovies. You can use shrimp, mussles, etc...

    have fun!
