I'm flying from California to Arkansas and between the flight I have to change planes.. but the time between the two flights is only 40 minutes!! How can I possibly check in and go through security without missing the second plane? And will they check my baggage the second time? Or will they just transfer it for me? I'm really worried because it says you have to check in at least 60 minutes prior to departure..!!

-I'm flying with United Airlines on both planes if that helps!!

  1. well they should give you 2 tickets when you check in at the first airport, one for the first flight, and one for the second flight. Also your bags should be transfered for you so all you would have to do is wait at the airport. This only aplies if you bokked both flights on the same booking.

hope this helps but im not sure if united would do it, but Qantas and singapore air dose.

    Enjoy your trip

  2. When you check in ASK the airline service attendant to make sure your bags are checked through to your final destination.  When they put the stickers on your bag and give you your copy of the luggage claim stickers make sure they are marked with the airport code of your final destination in Arkansas.  Since you are flying the same airline they will probably do this automatically but don't assume.  Make sure to ask.

40 minutes will be plenty of time to change as long as your first flight is on time.  The 60 minutes prior to departure rule doesn't apply to you at your layover - you are already checked in and through security at that point.  You are just transferring from one gate (where you get off your first plane) to a second gate (where your last plane departs).

    Good luck!

  3. Make sure when you check your bags that the tag they give you is for your final airport.  The bags will be there waiting for you. 40 minutes is plenty of time and they will have someone to guide you towards your next gate.  They usually are holding a sign that says something like (transfer passengers to Dallas please proceed left)  you get the drift.  You do not have to go through security again and you won't even see your bags.  You might even have time for a drink at the airport bar.  Chug A lug.

  4. they will check your bags thru to destination often you dont have to check in and go thru all the security again as your already inside the secure area when you land, you just have to go to the gate where the next plane is leaving from this will be displayed on the screens inside the terminal if confused ask some one official looking they will be able to tell you
