  1. you definitely need  a pair of shorts and a t shirt it is spring or pretty close to it so it will be warm. wouldn't want to be the only one on the mountain wearing a coat. (dorky) also wear wrist bands and a head band to catch the sweat  and pull your socks up all the way so the snow doesn't get to your feet. I've never actually been skiing before but I did stay at a holiday in express last night .

  2. goggles, helmet, jacket underarmor, snowpants, long underwear ski boots skis poles gloves

  3. Well, you definitely need to layer up no matter what you are doing. If you are going for the first time don't go crazy and buy a whole bunch of stuff because you might not go again. If you are going with a friend that has skiied or snowboarded before they more than likely have some extra gear.

    You will need long underwear,

2 pairs of socks, one pair preferably wool,

    a hat,

a few layers of shirts with a sweater,

    a scarf or neck up,

    gloves that are waterproof,

a jacket that is wind and waterproof,

some type of snow pants or wind and waterproof pants,

when I first started I knew a lot of people that just layered long johns under some jeans or sweatpants, some of the stores even have cheap nylong cover ups that you can just zip up over what you are wearing. Water proof something or other is definitely best because your butt can get cold while sitting on the lift, plus you might be falling a bit.

If you pick up at this sport right away then when you start going faster you will want a pair of goggles to protect your eyes from wind and if it is snowing  you will definitely need a pair. More than likely your pal will have an extra pair.

    Remember have fun.

  4. Well.. I go snowboarding every Friday so if you don't know what to choose yet i'll tell you right now that snowboarding is harder.

I wear a water and wind proof jacket that I got from Sports Authority. You need gloves.. the type of gloves that will keep you warm. A hat, and scarf if you like. Googles if you wear glasses.. at my ski shop they cot from 80-250 dollars.

Also ski pants and if you like the overall type that you can get from Sports Authority.

You can get anything you need at Sports Authority just ask for assistance if you need help.

    Hope I helped!

  5. If you're from New Jersey, you wear jeans and a wind breaker.  Everyone else would wear a good water resistant/proof snow jacket, snow pants, long wool socks, thermal pants & shirt (depending how cold it is), a beanie, snow gloves, and some sort of eye protection.  Goggles are not required but if you plan on going a few more times, you can usually get a cheap pair for $30 that would do the trick and will definitely be better than sunglasses.

  6. well i started skiing for the first time a year ago. Just to let you know, skiing is a lot easier than snowboarding and you have a much better chance of getting off the bunny hill the first day. But clothes-wise, dress according to the weather, wear layers. I normally wear a camisole, a long-sleeve knit f/ A&F, flannel pants, ski pants and my north face. Sometimes I'll switch my north face for a sweatshirt or a ski jacket based on the weather.

The key is LAYERS. You should definitely get a helmet and maybe goggles, I don't have goggles but I want them, also GLOVES. Whenever you go to lessons, they'll tell you, even if you're hands are hot, to keep your gloves on because they're the most important accessory. Just incase you fall and some skis/snowboards over your hands.

  7. Check the weather before you go.  I went with all my snow gear and it ended up being 45 degrees, which is super hot for snowboarding.  Thankfully I brought my backback to put my coat in, but that weighs you down.  I didn't need goggles, I wore sunglasses instead, but if it's a blizzard....you definitely want to take everything.  If you go to The Play it again Sports, they have some helpful guides on what to take, how to select equipment, etc.

    Good Luck

  8. Congrats on getting out for your first time!!  Here's how to dress:

The inner layer (goes over your underwear) is long underwear. Long pants, long shirt. It's best if this layer isn't cotton.

The middle layer is for warmth. You'll want to wear something fleece or wool. Something warm and preferrably not cotton again. Wear as many or as few middle layers as you feel you need depending on weather.

The outer layer is protection from the weather - wind and snow. Pants and jacket.

Wear one pair of good quality non-cotton socks.  Some people might say two but that's unnecessary.  Snowboard boots are built to keep your feet warm and they should fit snugly (so your toes just touch the end of the boot) and two pairs of socks will change the fit and feel.

I usually wear two layers as my middle layer, but will wear more or less depending on the weather. Generally I wear long underwear, fleece pants & snow pants on my legs and then long undershirt, fleece jacket and snow jacket on top.

Avoid cotton whenever possible. When it gets wet it's heavy and won't keep you warm. "Cotton kills."

Also you'll want good gloves, a hat and probably some goggles. Wear sunscreen also.

Don't carry anything extra in your pockets. You might be falling and it'd suck to break your cell phone / iPod / camera. I just carry a few dollars and some ID with me on the slopes.

Some people might tell you skiing is easier and that's very true for the first few days.  But if you want to snowboard don't waste your time doing something else, there aren't many skills that transfer between the two sports.

Take a change of clothes for the ride home and you should be good to go!
