Hi, I just got a baby drarf russian hamster today. She was still with her mother but she has all her hair and person who worked there said she was good for adoption. I named her Sadie and got here a "Super Pet critter trail cage" or something like that. I got her something like nutro diet hamster food and bedding. Tomorrow i am getting her a ball to roll around in outside her cage and a igloo/hut to sleep in. With her food and water i started feeding her letuss. Am i missing something? Are there any other fruits/veggies i should feed her?

Thanx. I have her in my room away from my birds (cockatiel, lovebird) and my dogs (german shepard, and s**z tuz poo)

  1. NO LETUS. Only carrots. Letus can kill rodents. Get a book on hamsters from your local library. It will have food bedding and etc. Umm just right now stick with your food you got till you got a book. When you get your hamster ball get it big big big. Get something it can chew on wooding blocks from the pet store or even a little peice of cardboard. It will kep them entertained and trim thier teeth. Play with it every day for more than ten minuetes twice or 3 times a day. Have fun. Oh apples are good to. But just to be sure get a book and it will tell you. Have a good time. Verry cute I bet.

  2. Congragulations on your new hamster.

The best food for hamsters is only the commercial hamster feed mix available in the pet shops. Hamsters need variety in their diet and the best way to do it is to get the commercial hamster feed that contains all the vitamins and minerals that your hamster requires.

You can feed her treats occassionally. However, the commercial hamster mix should account for 80% of the hamster daily diet and only 20% should come from treats.

Also remember any treat you give her should be unsalted, without sugar and without flavour.

Visit the following link for a list of fruits and veggies you can and not give a hamster.

  4. hi hamster lover!!!

if u want ur hamster happy/healthy u should include these in her food: Fats, proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, and alot of minerals.

Hay can provide some of the fiber your hammy needs.

Hamsters need fiber, and many enjoy eating loose hay rather than eating the alfalfa pellets found in most hamster mixes. Besides essential fiber, hay gives your pet something to do. You can place the hay on the floor of your pet's cage or keep it in a hay rack that attaches to the side of a wire cage.

By the way, toilet-paper tube are pretty fun for dwarf hamsters because they enjoy to be in the dark more than in a light area.

Carrots are pretty good for hamsters. They'll chew on anything so find crusty food in your fridge and go ahead let her try them.

Here's some foods to avoid:raw iceberg lettuce, kidney beans, onions, peanut butter, raw potatoes, and rhubarb.\

    Fun

If you want your hammy to have fun in your cage, get an aquarium cage with lots of tubes and playhouses for your hammy to explore in.

Hamsters can safely eat just about any kind of fruit including kiwis, peaches, tomatoes, watermelon, apple, plum pear, melon, raspberry, papaya, blueberry, blackberry, strawberry, and pineapple.

Make sure that u remove any uneaten foods left in the cage because they WILL rotten and make your little buddy sick. So have fun with your hamster, and if u have any questions, write me back cuz I have a cute little dwarf hamster and a huge book about hamsters, Have Fun!!! By the way DONT get a big ball for a dwarf hamster, because she will have allot of trouble running in it.
