Question:

First time in college and need advice?

I started me very first year of college today at a small community college.... I liked both classes I had today but one particular - IS computer concepts - I have a feeling that class will be a little hard... I am thinking about dropping it because it's not needed for my math major or for general ed and I don't wanna take any tough classes in my first semester/year... but I'm not sure about dropping it....

the bright side of it is if I drop it, I'll get out at 10:55 on Mondays and Wednesdays instead of 3:50 so I'll have extra time on the side at home for study in my other 3 classes....

I have to make a decision in the next 2 weeks and decide whether or not to drop it so I won't have a "W" on my report card or transcript....

I haven't made a decision yet.... I just wanna know what others would do in this situation...

  2. Have Fun....

    Don't bog yourself in study...

    College is for memories

  3. drop the class u already know what u need if your are insecure dont ask people online cause then u should ask the counselor cause they know whats best. but you are headed in the right direction cause it gives u more study time and u get out early and this is ur first semester why should you overload....drop the class and ull be fine. unless u need the credits then find an easy class like speech.

  4. Definitely drop it before it's too late.  Try to get into another class you need, though.

  5. How many unit hours would you have after dropping it?

If you would be considered part time (usually less than 12 units), you might lose your financial aid, if you have it, and also lose the opportunity to be covered by your parent's heath insurance (if you are covered right now). Look into other classes you could take instead, easy classes like PE.

If you will be a full time student then just drop it. I dropped a few classes in college because they were not what I expected.

It's also a very good idea to not take tough classes in your first semester. When I was in first year counseling for biology majors, they forbid us to take physics, biology, or psychology in our first quarter. You need to get used to the rhythm of college, without an unnecessary tough class ruining everything.

  6. I think if you don't need it you should drop it.  It getts harder as you go, so the extra time for your other classes will be needed

  7. I would say that if it is too hard of a class now that it is only going to get worse. So, I would drop it. IDK when your drop date is but ours ends on 8-22. Good luck.

  8. i'd drop it...good luck!

  9. I think if you feel it's a class that you aren't going to enjoy than you should drop it before its too late. Unless you have scholarships or some type of financial aid that requires you to be a student full time. I would say if it's not a requirement for your major, then drop it if you want. 5 hours is a big difference and you wouldn't believe how much that 5 hours would help with your studies for other classes.

  10. talk to your teacher for advice maybe? :)

  11. i think you can just drop it..as you have said you dont want to be pressured this semester..i guess its reasonable enough....

  12. cool

  13. Its a Community College, it can't be hard...can it?

  14. It's a no brainer you would be fine it's like your walking into a new school

  15. well in all honesty a busy schedule your first semester is good because it helps you get into the gear of college and you'll be less tempted to slack if you have a hard class ... I took a really hard semester my first semester and did great, while some friends of mine took easy classes-played video games all day and ended up failing even though their classes were super easy .... so I would advise you take it for the experience.

  16. work hard doent care wat the others teens say dont look bak keep moving forrward

  17. well i think you should really try it.It will help you in the future but if really not good at it don't take it^_^  hope i helped

  18. eh, its your first year, if you think it will be hard, drop it. college is kinda fun, better than high school, and easier.. but don't over-load yourself.

  19. Okay, sometimes you just know.

    You should drop then.

    BUT....

one important thing to consider is... do you have enough credits to stay a full time student?

It's usually 12, but whether or not you're a full time student factors into a lot of things, like financial aid and insurance (you could lose both)

Check with someone at your college or your mom and dad first.
