I have quit coming on here for a while because i was getting really tired of getting my hopes up every month. This is mine and my husbands 7th month counting days and 11 months not using any protection or anything. We are still not pregnant. What should we do. Any tips. We are actually having s*x everyday the week of my ovulation time, not getting up right after s*x, not smoking or drinking, not a lot of caffeine, he is wearing boxers and no HOT baths, and i'm taking prenatal vitamins and he is also taking a multivitamin. I even used pre-seed last month...well that didnt' work. What else can we do. It really is getting discouraging 7 months counting and next month will be a year with NO protection or BC.

  1. I am so sorry you have had to go through this month after month!

You may want to lessen your frequency of s*x to every other day.  even men with healthy sperm and a healthy quantity will be depleted with daily intercourse

I highly suggest the Clearblue fertility monitor.  I chose to use it because i was using donor insemination and had to time it perfectly, but I was able to conceive on my second try.

I was trying to conceive prior and was not getting pregnant.  I realized that I ovulate much later than I had though.  the monitor showed this and i was able to then time my inseminations at the corrent time.

Thinking of you and wishing you lots and lots of baby dust!

  2. Are you charting? Using OPK's? Checking your cm? If you're not doing any of these things, you may be miscalculating your date of ovulating. Timing is everything!

  3. Are you charting your temperatures, using OPK tests or evaluating your cervical mucous? All three of these can drastically increase your chances of conceiving quickly. Without charting there really is no way to know exactly when you are ovulating and so even if you think you may have an idea - charting can show you if you are off and thus not timing intercourse properly. Charting can also tell you if you have a luteal phase defect, or if you are not actually ovulating at all. I would consider starting to chart if you aren't already. www.fertilityfriend.com is awesome.

As for OPK's - some women swear by them but they can be misleading for numerous reasons and shouldn't be your only clue as to when you should time intercourse. Observing your CM is your best bet because as you approach ovulation it goes from being sticky or milky to a very slippery, wet consistency - similar to that of raw egg whites. This is when your body is MOST fertile and you should really may hay on the days you see this type of cervical mucous.

You can read more of all of these three methods by picking up "Taking Charge of Your Fertility"

Good luck and I hope it happens soon!

EDIT: If you are charting and using OPK's then I would agree with the first poster. It might be time to make an appointment with a fertility specialist. How are you typically timing intercourse? Two days before ovulation is the jackpot of conception where as the day before or the day of ovulation itself you have a smaller chance of conception. Another option is using a fertility monitor..

  4. Call your doctor and ask to be referred to a fertility specialist. It will take a few weeks to get an appointment, and by that time you will have been trying for a year.

If you're not ready or willing to do that, then start tracking your temps. Counting days is only slightly better than guessing. Tracking your BBT will tell you a lot more about what is happening with your body. Check out www.tcoyf.com to learn more.

    Good luck.
