Question:

First time parakeet owner?

I just got my parakeet Piper last tuesday and she seems to be doing pretty good with playing and getting on my index finger when I say "up". But she will not eat the seed mix that I bought her unless I hold the container close to her. Is there any way to get her to eat from where the container usually is. Which is close to the bottom of the cage?

  1. hang it on the side of her cage, they like that better then they can see all around while eating. I had six parakeets at once a few years back, they were so entertaining, Remember to cover her cage at night, but if I didn't have it uncovered by 9am, they would be so noisy it made me laugh. Good luck and cute name, Piper

  2. Yes, stop offering it to her yourself, she will get hungry enough to eat on her own.

  3. get a few little food bowls you can put around the cage, then gradually decrease the amount of food in the other bowls each week. soon he'll be looking for more around the cage and find the main bowl.
