  1. It will definitely be more expensive if you buy at the resort.

Dress in layers. Wear thermal underwear if you can. Bring extra gloves if you can in case your first pair gets wet.

Ski pants are worth the investment.  Any good winter coat will be appropriate for a first time. Columbia makes good products at a reasonable price.

  2. Why don't you try a goodwill or  St Vincent store, many times they have used items that are reasonable priced and may fit  you. Forget about style or current trends. Most experienced snow buffs have gear that is several years old.  You need

    1. A parka, waterproof with good insulation

    2. A pair of waterproof pants

    3. A hat or helmet that covers your ears

    4. A pair of gloves or mittens

    5. Goggles or  sun glasses, warm socks, and a sweater, also warm under wear on your legs.  A turtle neck shirt is also a traditional item.

    6. A pair of dancing shoes, and also a swimsuit for the hot tub.

  3. no DO NOT BUY WHEN YOU ARE THERE!

I don't know where you are going but I live in Loveland CO. and when I go to breckenridge or vail even the McDonalds there is outrageous, the cost of living there is twice what it is here, and it's kinda high here.

unfortuineatly, when it comes to winter gear you get what you pay for ... mostly. Your gonna be cold, you should probably just accept that now. I got my jacket at marshalls, it was only 30 bucks and it's really warm, you should check the discount stores. Don't spend a lot on gloves or gogles, you should wear more than one pair of gloves. A regular beenie should do fine for your head, but they might give you a helmet with your rental, which I've heard are very warm. Bring a bandana for your face in case it's really cold. I wear some well insulated wind pants with underarmor legs underneath, but these are expensive as any ski pants will be. I would just get a pair of wind pants (make sure they're water prof) and then wear sweats and long underwear underneath that. Make sure your gloves are water prof too!

your gonna look like a r****d anyhow if it's your first time, just the way it is.
