  1. Dress warm! Have a waterproof ski jacket, lined, or have a ski sweater or sweatshirt & waterproof ski pants. Make sure they're large enough to fit long underwear under the jacket & pants. Make sure you have goggles, a ski hat, scarf & warm gloves or mittens. Leather or lined canvas are the best. Rest often & stay on the beginner runs {green circles}. Take a group lesson if you cn afford it. They last only an hour & they are cheaper since it's a group. Always ski with a friend in case anything happens. If you're renting, get a short ski; make sure it's shorter than your chin & try your boots on first until they feel comfortable. Learn how to adjust your boots. Make sure feet don't move around in them & you should try tightening them up again after a few runs since they will probably loosen a little bit. A loose boot will cause you to have less control of your skis & this may cause you to cross your tips or your skis may be too far apart or too close together. Practice your turns & stops all the time & stay on a beginner slope {they're marked with green circles}. If you improve a lot then try an intermediate run {blue squares}. Good luck & expect to fall a lot on your first day, that's part of the learning process.

  2. dont be scared, just go down the mountain

  3. No way

I am goin to Tignes in March

It is a great place to start learning

The key is not to give up and just enjoy yourself

    Enjoy your trip !

  4. be brave and enjoy the scene and the snow.....have a very good time!!!

  5. skiing  is awesome. the lift is very easy to go up and its so fun to go down it was my first time last week and will be my second tomorrow. it give u such an awesome rush and feels like ur on top of the world. u have to know how to do the pizza but dont cross skis cuz u will fall. if ur sliping backwards make a v with skis and you will stop. to put skis on wear boots then put top of boot in ski then align it like a straight line and push down. if u fall its hard to get up so u could try to take skis off by pressing button on back of them. well hoped this helped.

  6. First - have a great time! I don't know how many days you will ski, (but I'll assume only a few).

    - Don't expect to be perfect! No one ever is on their first time. Setting realistic expectations for yourself will result in much more fun.

    - Find comfortable boots that fit snugly. If your boots aren't comfortable you are doomed!

    - Today's parabolic skis help you turn. I recommend getting skis that come up to your chin for your first time. These will be easier to control.

    - Like others have said, dress warm.

    - Wear a helmet! Rent one (they are cheap) or buy one from a used ski equipment shop. (The old skull-bucket has already saved my life). It keeps you warm, confident, and protects you all at once.

    - Consider a lesson. It's a good way to learn.

    - If you don't want to take a lesson, the key to success is keeping your skis parallel and your posture slightly-forward but upright.

    - If you feel like you can only go straight, out of control, and the only way to stop is to fall, rethink your strategy by using the WHOLE MOUNTAIN to keep in control. Make large S-turns using the entire width of the run you are on to get comfortable turning.

    - Try going straight for about 45 yards, gaining some speed, and forcing yourself to stop abruptly. By learning to stop, your confidence will go up and before you know it, you will be skiing blues with confidence.

    - Make yourself stop on your "weak-side" to improve your turning ability.

    LAUGH A LOT!

    - If you are lucky enough to ski in powder, know it's a bit harder at first (but much more forgiving if you fall). A good thing to do (believe it or not it's not too late) is to exercise your legs a bit before you go. Do squats, "wall-sits", lunges, or run today. Take a 2-3 day break and do them again. Getting the soreness out now will better prepare your stamina for your first day skiing.

    Best of luck!

  7. make ur skis a pizza (or pie) shape and turn, a lot, and have fun!
