Question:

First time teaching-Tap dancers please?

Hey. So I am going to be teaching this fall beginners tap. This will be my first year teaching, Im not exactly sure what I should do. I have some excersises in mind, bu I was hoping some of you could give me some Ideas. Like games to play or something. Thanks

  1. Well, first off, you have to teach them the basics. There's not too much to teach, really. Just things like shuffle-ball-change & maxi-fords. But I remember one of the games I played. Everyone makes a circle, and you choose someone to go first. They walk to the center of the circle, and do a step. Then everyone else has to guess what the step is. Whoever gets it first goes to the center next.

    But one important thing is, when you're trying to do a combination or exercise, always choose a fun song to do it to. It doesn't have to necessarily be a kids song, although my dance teacher uses Kidz Bop a lot for the younger ones. You can use regular rock music [as long as it's appropriate]. I remember we used to do things to Let's Twist Again [or whatever it's called] and it made it SO much fun.
