Hi, I am going for a week with my husband to Berlin. We are staying at the Circus Hostel. Can anyone give me any tips on places to eat (restaurants) and places to drink of an evening. We are both into alternative music and would love it if we could find a good rock pub. Any ideas? Oh, and how does the price of a pint compare to England??

  1. love berlin and I'm sure you will have a great time. Although I remember very little in terms of street names I can direct you to the best family style resteraunts and bars and not the usual commercial tosh.

From Berlin Zoo head east down the main street with shopping districts and boutiques. The roads running along side this street and down from it are full of the nicest eateries in Berlin and there are many great bars as well. I'd recommend scouting in perhaps the first day. prices are a little less than UK but difference really in nominal.

Stay away from the sausages and check out the tours concerning checkpoint charlie

  2. Ah, nice, the circus. A friend of mine is working there, great stuff, they will help you out with nearly everything. A pint is about 2,50 to 3,50 Euro (depends of course on the bar). Sometimes a bit less or more.

Rock/Indie Pubs and clubs not far away: White Trash Fast Food, Zosch, Schokoladen, Bassy, KingKongClub (!!), Roter Salon, Bang Bang club.

  3. Just Remember one thing wear lots of warm cloth coz i m shaking with this cold.

  4. I enjoyed the Bike Tour.

  5. if you are into alternative you should go check out the district of prenzlauer berg...its the left wing rock/alternative district...there is a ton of bars and clubs...kulturbrauerei is one of the famoust ones...close to that is also a famous currywurst place called konopke....its an east berlin staple and has been there since the thirtys...i suggest it to everyone that goes to berlin and everyone that ate there loved it..if you need more tips please feel free to message me...the list would be too long to post it all

  6. You are staying in a good central area of Berlin.

Definitely go to Hackescher Hof, which is right next to the Hackescher Markt S-bahn station.  It is just a nice area to wander around - the "hip" part of town. You can also go from there down Oranienburgerstr.  There are many restaurants along there and some cool bars.

I dont' know of any rock pubs in that area, sorry!

  8. A must for a first time visitor, is to take the City Tour 'bus.

Sit upstairs and you will enjoy the sites and also get your bearings.

Its worth the few Euro's it costs.
