Question:

First time with contact lenses?

by  |  earlier

My father thinks I should get contact lenses. I'm going to the eye doctor on Monday. I'm a bit weary of contact lenses for the following reasons:

Reason 1: I'm afraid I'll forget that they're in my eye and sleep with them or rub my eyes

Reason 2: I'm afraid they'd get stuck in my eye somehow or I'd irritate my eye

Reason 3: I'm afraid I won't be able to get them in my eye at all

I'd love for someone to help me feel more comfortable with the idea of getting contact lenses and possibly clear up the three reasons I have for my weariness towards contact lenses. Possibly include some first hand experience if you'd like. Thanks in advance!

  1. When it comes to contact lenses there are so many myths that can make you change ur decision of whether you want contacts or not. But believe me, it isnt as bad as people make it sound. I am a contacts user myself and only started using them about an year ago. I was scared at first too cause everyone was telling me how you would be poking your eyes and if it gets stuck you have to do surgery and stuff, but in the end I was like Im going to take a chance. My eye doctor showed me how to wear contacts and I couldn't get them in at first. It took me like 4 or 5 tries at his office before i could get it in. My doctor said no one gets it in on their first time so  don't worry about trying to get them in cause like many things in life practice makes perfect and you will master how to wear contacts quickly. If you forget and you rub your eyes its not really a huge deal. Like you might move them out of place buh if you don't rub too hard  you will have no harm. You will sorta feel them in your eye so I am pretty sure you won't forget and sleep with them. If you are worried about this you can ask ur eye doctor for all day use contacts. I believe these are the contacts that one can sleep with, but they may be expensive. Also don't worry about them gettin stuck in your eyes cause when you first put it in you will notice that you will be bale to move them while they are on ur eye. If you feel ur eye is dry and u are hafin difficulty cause of that you can buy eyedrops which will allow your eyes to be moist and will help you move your contacts and get them out more easily. Don't be worried. You will be successful with your contacts and when you do have them you will be like wow I cant believe I was so worried about this. Good luck and again like I said don't worry. =)

  2. you can use gelatinous contact lenses, like this, your eyes won't irritate and you can remove them only once in the week. but you will have laziness of putting them. so, I suggest glasses.

  3. Hey don't get scared...I just got mine yesterday too! They are not anooying or anything..The doctors will help you put them in and take them out...Dont worry. I dont think you will forget that they are in your eye. I thought that i would forget them too! but i didnt . But you know that you have somehing in your eye so you will want to take them off. They cant get stuck because if you put them in your eye, and blink, they will get into place. And all you have to do is take on hand and hold your eye open and the other you have the lens on the tip of ur index finger and then put it in...I dont know you but i know how you feel dont be scared.............Trust me!

  4. First off, I have seen plenty of people (including myself) that couldn't get the contacts in their eyes after hours of trying.  The best thing to do is, take your time and do not get frustrated, you will get it.

You may want to ask the dr. if you could wear Focus Night and Day.  Those are contacts that you can keep in your eye up to 30 days (although I do recommend that you take them out every now and then to clean them).

It is very seldom that the contacts get stuck in your eye.  However, they do come out.

If your contacts are irritating you, most likely there may be some lent on them.  Just take them out and clean them.  Always look for small tears because that can cause irritation too.  I always have my glasses as a back up because my allergies kick in every now and then.

But despite my irritating start with contacts, I love them now.  I eventually got the hand of putting them in and taking them out.  I see better with them.

There is nothing to be afraid of, you'll do fine.  And you'll grow to love them too.

  5. usually the first experience -- little irritation and watering of the eyes-- being  the contact lens a foreign body on the cornea. your no 1 expectation is not adhering to the instruction given to you -- which could be cover come latter.

  6. go ahead and get them they help.. i don't think it's easy for them to get caught in your eyes sooo good luck:)
