First two weeks of 2012 season and performance of NFC East – NFL Review (Part III)
Continued from part II...
Washington Redskins
Every National Football League (NFL) fan waited for Washington Redskins first game of the season as they wanted to see how their star quarterback would perform.
The Redskins had selected Robert Griffin III (RG3) as the second overall pick in this year’s draft and after performing well in the preseason, the rookie was expected to stun his opponents in the regular season well.
RG3 did exactly the same in the season opener as the Redskins staged first upset of the season by defeating New Orleans Saints, who had qualified for the playoffs last year and are again a playoff contender.
In Week 1 game of the season, Redskins played on Saints’ home field and defeated them in a high-scoring game dominated by offensive sides of both teams.
The game went neck-and-neck right from the start and both Redskins and Saints continued to provide scoring moves throughout the four quarters. However, Redskins outscored their opponents to win the battle.
In Week 2 game, Redskins faced St. Louis Rams and were defeated by them. It was again a good offensive show from Redskins, but they were unable to overcome the Rams, who were unable to win their first game of the season. Cincinnati Bengals will face Redskins
now in Week 3 game and it will be interesting to see how Redskins deal with Bengals.
RG3
The rookie was outstanding in his NFL debut. He was accurate and aggressive against a strong opponent. RG3 sent a total of 26 passes and completed 19 of them for 320 yards. The rookie sent two touchdown passes and was able to spend an interception-free game.
Against Rams, he was even better as he scored rushing touchdowns as well. He sent a total of 29 passes and completed 20 of them for 206 yards. The rookie was unable to provide another interception-free game as he sent one interception.
New York Giants
The defending champions could not start the season well as they were defeated by the Cowboys, but Giants’ offensive performance was not that much poor. There were certainly many flaws and since it was first game of the season and the players usually take
some time to settle on the field, the loss did not get on their nerves.
After losing their first game, Giants faced Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Giants were unable to start the game well, but they managed to come back towards the end to get their first victory of the season and tie 1-1 with Cowboys and Redskins in the division.
Eli Manning
Manning is a dependable quarterback for Giants, but he was not at his best against Cowboys in Week 1.
Manning was not bad with accuracy in Week 1 game. He attempted 32 passes and completed 21 of them. The quarterback gained 213 yards and contributed one touchdown pass.
In Week 2 game, he threw passes more frequently and tried to create big moves as well. Although he failed to complete many of his passes, his overall record was commendable.
Manning threw a total of 51 passes and completed 31 of them to gain massive 510 yards. Three of his passes resulted in touchdowns while the quarterback also sent three interceptions.
Giants’ next opponents are Carolina Panthers for Week 3 game.
