First-up victory in Super Eights will ease the pressure: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MEK-Hussey-c1942 – Cricket News Update
Veteran Australian batsman Michael Hussey has stated that an early victory in the Super Eights stage of the ongoing ICC World Twenty20, 2012, will provide his team a sense of security as they look to work their way through the remainder of the tournament.
“If we can win that first one in the Super Eights, it does give you that confidence and that little buffer that you know you just need one out of the last two to get through,” Hussey said. “It's pretty much an early grand final really in the context of the
tournament.
“All the [batsmen] are playing well in the nets and they've got a lot of confidence, and that's a big part of Twenty20” Hussey added while commenting on the team's preparation. “You need to have no doubts in your mind or fears, you've got to trust yourself
and let your instincts take over.”
Despite the team’s obvious confidence, Australia came into the ongoing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Twenty20 with many doubting their abilities, owing largely to a 2-1 T20I defeat to Pakistan prior to the mega event, and a dip in the ICC T20 team rankings, which saw them falling
below Ireland on the table.
Their performance in the warm-up matches before the World T20 remained lacklustre – a 56-run win over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.
However, the team adopted an aggressive attitude after the commencement of the actual event, going on to breeze through the group stage. Aided by in-form all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751, before going on to beat
the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 by 17 runs in a rain-affected game.
The victories earned the team a spot in the next stage of the tournament – the Super Eights – and they will now be battling it out with their fellow Group 2 teams (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, and India) for a spot in the semi-finals.
Considered a formidable side on the international cricketing stage, the Australian team has yet to win a World T20 title, and their current attitude suggests the side is focused and intent on claiming the cup.
Following their qualification for the Super Eights, head coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 will now
be gearing up for their first Super Eights match, due to be played against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 on September 28.
