First women’s only referee course of 2012 set to take place in Namibia – Volleyball news
The Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) revealed the 2012 referee’s development calendar on Tuesday, January 24 in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The FIVB announced the schedule of the international volleyball referees courses for women in the season. According to the set plan of International Volleyball Governing Authority, the first women’s only referee course will take place in Namibia from March
16 to 21, which will be followed by courses of the similar kind in Mexico, Thailand, Nigeria, Iran, Dominican Republic, Liechtenstein, Bahrain, Romania, Turkey, and in different parts of Africa this year.
It has been just a few years that women have jumped into the profession of supervising the volleyball game. Until a few years ago, it was unusual for a female to work in such a profession but now they have a strong presence in international events. The volleyball
tournaments and championships for women have been running since long but the female referees took up the challenge for a few years now. The FIVB actually took the initiative to expand the participation of female referees in the game. They promoted the contribution
of women referees at local, regional, and international level.
The Federation International de Volleyball is still working to increase the number of female referees in the game and for this particular reason; the FIVB has planned a number of referee courses for women in the year 2012.
The female only referee course in Namibia will serve the sole purpose of attracting more women into the profession. It will provide help to the National Federation, in order to implement and develop volleyball in Namibia.
The FIVB is supposed to provide qualified instructors, manuals, and volleyball equipment for the course. Furthermore, the necessary support of FIVB will enable the Namibian Volleyball Federation (NVF) to conduct the activity in a better way. The aspiring
referees will get training and professional instructors will work on developing their potential.
Last year, the Namibian city of Windhoek provided ground for men’s Volleyball Cooperation Programme (VCP), which proved to be a great success. This time, the FIVB and NVF are hopeful about the effectiveness and success of the upcoming female referee course
in Namibia.
