  1. Just pick someone you think is the same speed as you, and stay at their pace. Ask before practice if someone will run with you, because you've never ran that far before. And don't worry, a 5 mile run is at a way slower pace than your mile runs. Just try to keep a steady pace, and if you fall behind, its just because you haven't practiced. Remember, it's not a real race, and no one will laugh at you, so don't be embarassed.

You should eat a banana and some peanut butter like an hour before practice.

    Good Luck!

  2. tell the coach how much you have run and what your general speed is. They will pair you with someone like you. It is unlikely that everyone else will be super fast.  Generally you dont eat 1 hour before you run but b/c it is your first big practice you might want to eat around 8ish to be safe. Drink water before you go to bed and when you get up.

  3. First of all I think that's really good that you're going to practice even though it might be tough. Just run as much as you can and jog/shuffle the rest. DO NOT WALKif you can help it. Even though you may not be weak at all, the coach might think that you're not mentally tough or you don't want it bad enough if they see you walking. Get up at 6 and eat a light breakfast like a banana and a protein bar.  Hope this helps and hope all goes well!

PS: you're deffanitley capable of more than you'd think. When my base mileage was 4 I wen out and jogged 8 miles and had no idea I had it in me.

  4. well your probaly not the only one who hasnt run a lot before. my first day i hadnt run much at all, it will get easier. tell your coach that youve only been running one mile a day and you dont want to get hurt. be patient with yourselve.

i would say eat breakfast at 8 or 9. try eating dry cearal, a bagel or toast with peanut butter, muffins, trail mix, or garnola bars. drink lots of water and stay away from milk!

just try your best and dont give up on it (corny but true). good luck and have fun!!

  5. Heyy!!  I run cross country and track at my high school!  I'm a sophomore too and have summer practices that i'm going too!  We run 5 miles too, but we run at 6a.m. when its really cool outside.  I would recommend not eating breakfast till after because you might get a cramp, and then it would be hard to run with that. But if you have to eat and you are starving, then eat something really healthy for you like a small bowl of fruit or yogurt.  Nothing real heavy or fattning!  Also, I don't know about your coach, but when we have new people to the team joing, he lets them run a shorter path of about 3 miles or something since they are not used to running the full 5 miles.  The most important thing to remember though is to believe in yourself!  If you go to the practice tomorrow telling yourself that you can't run the 5 miles and that there's no possible way that you will be able to stay up with them, then you won't be able too!  Just go there with a positive attitude and tell yourself that you're going to do your best and push yourself and don't get discouraged if your slower than some people.  Use that as encouragment to get better and practice so that you can eventually be better than them!  I hope that helped!  =)

  6. Lots of people say don't eat before practice, but I find that is worse than getting a cramp. If you are really gonna push yourself tomorrow, you're gonna need some energy. Try eating an hour before practice starts. You'll have enough time to digest the food and won't have to worry about cramps too much. NO MILK THOUGH. I feel that drinking milk before a run, even an hour before will give you a cramp. Good Luck tomorrow!
