Question:

Fish BOWL?

i know that bowls are definately not the best option for fish. but, i'm wondering if what i'm doing is at least a little better for my fish, even though its in a bowl. i'm hoping i can get a tank soon, anyway.

i have a small fish. when i clean its bowl, i have these things that look like pills, but you put them in and wait till they dissolve and they remove the things in the water that could be dangerous for a fish. i don't know what they're called, sorry. i didn't fill the bowl up all the way, just to the widest point, which still leaves lots of room for my fish to swim since its so small. is this at least a little better for my fish even though its in a bowl? what else can i do for my fish (and don't say get a tank) to make it maybe live longer, or if not possible, at least a happier life? thanks=) my fishy thanks you all too=)) (btw, he has the cutest little face, i know that sounds weird, but he does... hehe xD)

  1. NO fish should be kept in a bowl!!

Even a betta needs at least a 10 gallon tank to be happy, it also needs heat and a filter plus you need to moniter the water correctly.

To the person who is keeping goldfish in a bowl you are cruel and you have no idea how happy your fish are. They are almost definatly stunted which will cause your poor fish to live a miserable painful life.

  2. Fish are happy no matter what!!!

My son's fish are in a bowl and they're the happiest fish you'll ever meet (I mean it!!!) I have a pump which keeps the water clean I also have little ornaments which give out oxygen which helps the fish breathe you could also add a water snail which eats all the algae build up!!!

  3. What type of fish is it? Depends on the species of fish. Bettas can live fine in a bowl, but nor goldfish.

Edit: as long as the tank is about a gallon or bigger, and you keep the water clean, he should be fine!=)

  4. You should get it a tank.

Bettas deserve a minimum of 2.5 gallons. If you confine them to a small bowl (filled halfway) without a filter or heater, then they will die soon. They need a filter with established bacteria so they can consume the ammonia and nitrites that harm fish. It needs a heater because it's a tropical fish. These are actual pictures of where Bettas live in the wild: http://www.cultureshocktherapy.com/pic/i...

Bowls are deathtraps to living fish.

  5. thats ok

but how do you fit a heater in a bowl

    they are tropical fish

  6. a betta????  you dont have to add that much pellets for it.  the pellets that clean it will also kill the betta.  also, you DONT need a tank for it.  all bettas have "lungs", so they can breathe air.  you only have to feed it 2 to 3 pellets of food and you dont need to change the water that often.  the pellets that clean also kill good bacteria that eliminates nitrites or nitrates (i forgot which one).  if you get a tank, dont transfer the betta into the tank.  put other kinds in it instead.  bettas do need at least 2.5 gallons, but they can live in half a gallon.

  7. you can add an aerator and do daily partial water change that it.  Or I saw an undergravel filter for goldfish bowl you can put that one.

  8. fish in a bowl?where r u from? the past,so cheap might well throw away yur fish.

  9. You could feed them flacks or go to a pet store like Pet's Mart and ask them.

  10. you can get a 10 gallon tank kit for around 20 bucks at walmart, as long as it is not a goldfish, that is your best option, if it is a goldfish then you need to look into a 20-30 gallon kit which will probably run around 50...there isn't much you can do to improve its life until its out of a bowl.
