Ok, i have this lovely 28 litre AquaStart 320 fish tank, it is heavily planted (in a good way)and has an aquatic carpet plant all over the floor (Hemiantus Callitrichoides ) and a large piece of driftwood, it looks a bit like this:

but without the long grassy stuff at the front.

I am going to get a male betta, but i dont know what other fish, i may also get some large(ish ) amano shrimp, large so the betta doesnt eat them, any other ideas??? Also will the shrimp work with the betta?

Thanks in advance also any other tips for a tropical tank?

  1. well, dont get a betta because they are very aggressive.get guppies mollies balloon mollies and other tropical fish.

  2. What about a nice school of tetras?  Schooling fish tend to stay out of trouble with bettas, and most other fish. :]

  3. I'd get a big shoal of neon tetras, some zebra danios and some harlequin Rasboras.

  4. go saltwater

  5. Betta fish are not friendly at all!

I'm not sure if they would cope together well with any kind

    of fish.

  6. Some small, lively Tetras,(Head- and- tail- light, Rummynose, Neons,or Cardinals) come to mind. Stay with just one specie, and add a fairly large group,7 or 8 as a minimum.

A larger fish population will require activities that will be hard on the plants.

The Amano Shrimp are a good idea.

Keep the water changes small,no more that 20%, and frequent. (Two 10% changes per week would be better than one 20% per week) The shrimp eat algae so they will help keep the plants nice.

  7. dont bother with a marine set up like some say your tank is too small and its alot of bother. i reckon you should try guppys get more females than males and watch them multiply they are one of the most fun fish out there totally bonkers. Having done the bigger fish (28inch arrowana, lungfish etc etc) i think some of the smaller ones are more fun
