Question:

Fish Compatability Question?

Okay - I have a tank, which is currently houseing a gold gourami, and two silver dollars (also one female swordtail).

My question is, would a rainbow shark work with the current fish? I'm planning on getting some sort of algea eater, and more silver dollars when I can get my hood light replaced (my hood died, and I lost my pleco, guppies, and GLO danios)

Any other ideas?

Thanks

  1. Swords are not schooling fish....just an FYI. Although your silver dollars are.

A rainbow shark would be fine with your current collection.  Just make sure you have proper space for all of them.  Gouramis and sharks tend to be a little territorial and need proper room.

  2. You might want to reconsider your position. A hood light would have no affect on a fish living or not.

A rainbow shark would fit in ok with the ones you have. An African catfish is the BEST algae eater I ever had.

  3. a rainbow shark would be fine with those fish. get another few swordtails though. they are schooling fish and do better in groups of 3 or more.

  4. No, rainbow sharks are best suited to the semi-aggressive community tank... it doesnt matter what the pet shop might tell you....

i had a pretty bad experience, at the pet store, they said they could live together (the sharks) and they were good community fish...  within one day, the slightly larger one had killed the other... then i noticed my tetras slowly dropping in numbers and he wiped out my cloud mountain minnows he was also evil and aggressive towards to my mollies guppies and khuli loaches!!!!! So he quickly went back to the shop!!!

They are best suited to semi aggressive community and are compatible with Blue Gouramis, silver sharks, tinfoil barbs, and crown loaches.... So no, dont get one unless you want alot of casualities!!!!

    Good Luck xxxxxxxx
